Chapter 17 The words came out automatically. “He isn’t ‘my’ Caleb.” “Whatever. You didn’t tell him about the Glendale house, did you?” “No.” She almost had, though. She’d almost picked up the phone and let him know where she would be. Another shiver went through her despite the stuffiness of the house, the stale air of a place that had been closed up for days on end. “Well, thank God for that,” Michael said, and he did sound relieved. “But now you need to get out of there.” “I just started looking — ” “I don’t care, Rosemary.” She could practically feel his frustrated worry shimmering across the hundreds of miles that separated them. Was Audrey somewhere in the background, listening in anxiously and praying that everything was still okay over there in California? “Okay,” she said.
