Chapter 7 The Hunt

Blaze mind linked with me, now Tundra I know this is your first hunt but don't worry what us werewolves lack in size, we make up for with collaboration and intelligence, we work together as a pack to take down prey much larger than an individual. We are opportunists and test our prey, sensing any weakness or vulnerability through visual cues and even through hearing and scent.

we have certain individuals who typically carry out their specific role in the hunt, While we will eat hares and other small prey, the preferred targets are large deer.

"Blaze, what if we get kicked or run over by one of the deer? Can't that kill us or at least injure us pretty bad? "

"It is not common for anyone in our pack to be injured or even killed during these hunts by being kicked by a hoof or gored by an antler. Most often, the prey we select is in some way weaker and more vulnerable than the other animals in the herd." The deer may be injured, sick, old, very young, or genetically inferior. But even healthier animals can, at times, find themselves in a vulnerable position."

"I'm not going to lie. We may trail a herd of deer for a whole day before making our move. During this time, we have already assessed the herd, looking for an animal that displays any sign of weakness."

"Now, are you ready to learn what our other half does?"

"Yes, I'm ready to learn."

"Bate Patrick let out a howl to signal us that the deer had been tracked and the chase was now on."

"After we chased them for what seemed to be hours, my instincts took over completely, I started stalking the deer into a corner of a rocky hill there was no way they could make it up the rocks they had no choice but to scatter leaving the younger and older ones behind."

before I knew it, Blaze and the pack started to surround the deer that was left on its own. Some of the pack started approaching the deer from behind. Well, Blaze was bitting at the deers shoulder as beta Patrick was biting at the flank next thing I see was the deer trying to throw them off it started to come towards me I started to size it up from the front and leaped towards it grabbing the deer by its face now the whole pack had ahold of the deer and we're bring it to the ground Blaze latched onto its neck holding it until it stopped kicking and squirming on the ground as it took its final breath."

The pack all backed up and looked at me and Blaze. I was a bit confused, then Blaze mind linked me

"Tundra, we eat first before the rest we are higher rank as Alpha and future Luna."

I didn't feel quite right eating before the rest but I did as i was told by Blaze as he tore into the deers abdominal cavity we started to consume the organs after a few bites Blaze signaled for the rest of the pack to join in for there fill."

After everyone had their fill, we left the rest for the scavengers to finish off at least. I knew the deer wouldn't go to waste and that the other animals would be able to have their share as well.

shortly after we all started to head back it was getting dark quick and the younger wolves of the pack were starting to slow down you could tell they were getting tired that's when Blaze mind linked me and beta Patrick to tell him we would stop for the night and continue home tomorrow, we found a small cave that looked like it's been emptied for years after beta Patrick inspected it Blaze gave us the all clear to go in and get some rest that we would be up just before the sun was to rise to finish our way home you could tell the younger ones looked relieved as the flopped their selves down and quickly closed their eyes.

I couldn't sleep. I didn't feel tired as this was my first time shifting and doing a hunt. All i wanted to do was lay outside looking up at the stars well, taking in the fresh air I heard someone come out of the cave it was Blaze he stood there staring at me from the entrance of the cave he was probably wondering what I was doing outside.

"Tundra, are you ok?"

yes, I just wanted to take in the fresh air and look at the stars for a bit.

"Well, we should probably get some sleep. we have to get up in a few hours to make it home by lunch tomorrow. Let's go in and try to get some rest. You had a big day it was first hunt. You may not feel tired now, but trust me, you will tomorrow."

okay, let's go in. boy was he ever right when we got up i barley wanted to move i definitely didn't get enough sleep we were right up before the sun started to rise we all started to head back the rest of the way that's when I realized I was going slower then the rest of the pack Blaze kept coming back to walk with me and make sure I was okay.

"Tundra, when we get back, you can go get some rest in our room. You look like you need it."

no, I will be fine. I don't want to sleep most of the day, or I won't be able to sleep tonight. we finally reached the pack house it felt like we were gone for more than just a day. The next thing I knew, everyone started to grab their clothes they had left out the day before I realized I forgot to bring any extra clothing out with me before I shifted I looked at Blaze and mind linked him before he shifted back umm Blaze I forgot to grab extra clothes can you grab me some before I shift back please.

"he let out a little laugh. Yes, i can, my sweetness, I'll be right back."

A few minutes later, layton walks out with some comfortable looking clothes in his hand. i follow him behind the pack house, so I have privacy shifting back then getting dressed. after I got everything on, he said, "Let's go upstairs. I looked at him, why we just got back?.

"Harley, everyone that was out on the hunt are going to get rest. You included it's normal for everyone who shifts and goes on the first hunt to rest when we return home."

we head inside and up the stairs to our floor as we get into the room layton looks at me then gives me a kiss on the cheek then asks if want to quickly shower that he will have one after me then we can lay down for a bit.

after I jump out of the shower I grabbed one of layton's pajama shirts and climbed into the bed he already jumped in the shower I was trying to stay awake until he came back out but I slowly closed my eyes, a few minutes later I woke up to the bed dipping in on the one side layton crawled in and pulled me closer to him I loved the way he smelled his sent smelled like fresh rain water in the summer it was so intoxicating I slowly started to close my eyes again.
