I changed clothes quickly. Then I heard David scream.
He must have looked in the mirror.
I hesitated, sighed, and then I went to his room. I knocked before I opened the door and went inside.
“Mom! What did you do? There’s a hole in my head!”
“There’s not a hole in your head. If there were, you’d be dead.” I sat on the bed next to him.
“I wish I were dead,” he said. “You know this means I walked around all day with gum in my hair and no one told me. I bet that’s why Ariel Williams didn’t talk to me all day.”
