Chapter 2

1220 Words
Sasha The bridal shower for the ritual had began, but I felt like I had already lost, even before anything started. “I don't think I want to go, Sabrina” I curled up to myself on my bed, replaying the scene from the dining table in my head. “Don't think too much about that, Sash. He doesn't mean it. Trust me, he must have had a bad day” She rubbed her hands on my knees. I looked into Sabrina's eyes, my own eyes filled with tears. Sabrina pleaded with me, said stuffs about the bridal shower being hosted for me and I had to be there. “I can't go” I insisted. “It’s not just a bad day, Sabrina. He doesn't want me, I don't deserve to be beside him like Amelia said” “No, you deserve better, Sasha” Sabrina told me. “If you want to have it, then go for it” I fell into silence and pondered on her words. For years, I've watched Damien Blake from a distance, liked him from the shadows and just six months ago, the moon goddess made my wishful thinking come true. He became my mate, he's mine, and I can make him like me back. “I’ll go” I blurted out and climbed out of bed, making Sabrina delighted at the decision I had made. She picked a dress for me, and together, we headed to the backyard of the packhouse where the bridal party was behind held, around the large pool area. Laughter roared across the area, people congratulating me and laughing to my face but the laughter didn't reach their eyes. They were all fake! Many people were present, everyone of them looking expensive. Amelia and her friends also came, their scornful look and whispers to my face making my throat tighten. “Congratulations, Sasha. You are finally leveling up” one of Amelia's friends smiled. That wasn't a compliment but rather a mocking remark but I returned her smile, thanking her for her words. Champagne flutes were passed around and I watched as things unfolded while the ladies laughed and discussed. I couldn't chirp into any of their discussions and it felt like I was invited here by mistake. “I heard the alpha of the shadowridge territory will be coming” One of Sabrina's friends said. Faces turned to her and whispers went around. “You mean Kael Morvane?” Someone snapped and when she got her response, gasped. “That cruel and ruthless man will be here tomorrow?” “Ask Amelia. She should know better, they are relatives” another person uttered. Faces turned to Amelia who was dressed like a queen, legs crossed with her aura emanating like wildfire. “Tell us, Amelia” one of her friends asked. “Will your uncle be here tomorrow?” Amelia's lips curled into a smirk. “Yes, to seal the peace treaty with our pack like he does every year” “You might be the one he choose” she teased the lady who shivered at the words and shook her head negatively. No one wants to cross paths with Kael Morvane, not to talk of being taken away by him as a peace treaty. Rumours had it that he was exiled unfairly from the pack and had built a pack with rogues, becoming more powerful than anyone could have expected. Now he makes our pack pay, by taking tributes every year. I turned around in search of Sabrina but she was gone. Where could she have gone to? She shouldn’t leave me alone in this boring gathering. “I'll be right back” I said to no one in particular and exited the backyard, going to search for Sabrina in the house. I climbed the stairs carefully, my heels clicking against the marble floor. I was heading to Sabrina's room when I heard voices coming from the Alpha's room. For a moment, I forgot about Sabrina and switched my focus to the alpha. Standing in front of his room, I regretted ever coming here. Sound of moans came from inside, overlapped by deep grunts and wet slams of skins. Anger boiled inside me and I stood frozen at the door, listening as my mate f****d someone that's not me. The mate bond didn't hurt, but I felt pain and anger surge through me with force. It's not the first time I'd be hearing him f**k someone in his room, but I had always acted oblivious to it. “Go find Sabrina, Sasha” Something in me cautioned. I walked away from the door, and searched for Sabrina in her room. She wasn't there, and I couldn't find her in other parts of the house. I didn't return to the bridal party but returned to my room instead. I showed up and that's all that matters. The next morning, I woke up with Sabrina by my side. “You are finally awake” She smiled. “Good morning” I greeted. “Skip the greetings, you don't want to be late for the ritual” It's the D-day, the day I get mated to Damien. I was nervous, but another part of me was excited. Sabrina dressed me up and a few minutes later, I was standing in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. Sabrina placed her hand on my shoulder. “Don't let your nervousness wreck you. Stay strong for the big show later” I didn't ask questions even though I was confused. I only nodded in understanding. Sabrina led me to the hall. Many eyes prickled my skin the moment I entered, lips whispering words of mockery. The alpha stood across the room, acting like I didn't exist even when he sighted me. “Congratulations” People commented and I replied everyone with an unwavering smile. I tried to stand close to Damien, but he shifted away from me like I was a plague. “The ritual will commence once the elders are here, everyone should take a seat” someone announced over the microphone, the words echoing through the four walls of the hall. People took their seats and before I realized, Damien was gone from my side. I searched for him with my eyes but he was nowhere in sight. My legs were feeling tired from the high silhouettes I had been forced to wear and I needed to take a break from the background music and the crowd. I headed into the packhouse, away from the noisy hall. Inside the sitting room, I expected silence, knowing everyone should be in the hall at the moment but was surprised to hear voices coming from the kitchen. Slowly, I followed the voices to the kitchen. The door was slightly opened, enough to see the people inside. My heart hammered against my ribcage when I saw my mate, kissing someone whose face had been blocked by his frame. I froze. How can he be doing this during our mating ritual? How can he keep doing this to me? He broke the kiss and the lady's face came into view. My heartbeat tripled and I refused to believe that Sabrina was the one standing there, pinned under Damien. No…. It can't be.
