Sasha
I was still lost in the shock of what had just happened when the air in the hall suddenly shifted.
The background music slowed and faded. People instantly went silent and they whispered under their breath.
“He's here! Alpha Kael is here”
I was too shocked at what had just befallen me to turn to look at the man who had entered and made an entire hall shift with his presence.
“Welcome, Alpha” Damien shifted me to the side with force as he walked to greet the man. Having no strength, I lost my balance and fell devastatingly to the floor.
“Skip the greetings” The man's voice was dark and cold. “I'm here for what you owe”
Tears spilled from my eyes as the people's voices faded into the background while I replayed scenes in my head.
Moments of running around the house and knitting together with Sabrina. Days of going to parties and being dragged to nightclubs with her. All of that? They were lies, fake.
Someone suddenly grabbed me, pushing my thoughts aside and lifting me off the ground with force.
It was Damien.
He held my wrist roughly and turned me to look at the alpha of the shadowridge pack.
This man……
My brows knitted in confusion and I sniffled, trying to recall where I had met him.
Then the memory hit me, knocking into my brain with force.
“Will you f*****g look straight when you walk?”
I gasped instinctively, realizing the trouble I had gotten myself into.
The man I had bumped into earlier was Kael Morvane?
My heart thundered in my chest as our eyes locked and he stared deep into my soul, holding my gaze longer than I had expected.
I didn't want to look into his frightening eyes, but I also couldn't dare take my gaze away from him.
But why did Damien drag me up just to make me look at him?
“You can take her” Damien's voice replaced the silence and my eyes widened.
“What happened to the peace treaty we agreed on?” The man's voice darkened, the way his words dropped, making even Damien shiver.
Alpha Kael's eyes moved around before they landed on someone. “Her”
I turned to look at who was being spoken about and blinked my eyes, seeing Sabrina step out.
What was happening? Sabrina was given to him as a peace treaty?
“I bet you don't want to take her,” Damien quickly said. “She won't be of any usefulness to you but her….” He looked at me with disgust.
“She is more useful than she looks,” Damien added.
My lips trembled, but I forced a little courage out of me to speak. “What's happening here? What are you talking about?”
Damien gripped my wrist tighter and moved his face closer to me. His teeth gnashed and his face looked fierce enough to make my whole body tremble.
“Just shut your mouth and watch!” He gritted in a low tone.
“You are not blind. He's trading you for your sister” Alpha Kael placed his hand in his pocket, his dark blue eyes piercing into my face.
Slowly, his words registered and my eyes widened in shock before they snapped to Sabrina. Sabrina’s face was calm, her fake soft smile making my fists curl.
“You were offered to him as a peace treaty?” I asked, voice audible for everyone to hear.
Sabrina walked elegantly to me, placing her hand on my shoulder and adjusting my dress which doesn't need her help.
“You are just a convenience, Sasha” she whispered. “You are not important so just die in my place”
She smiled widely. “That's what a good little sister does”
“I can't accept getting offered to a monster as a peace treaty, you know?” Sabrina stepped back and returned to where she stood.
My jaws dropped and my eyes blinked. She's taking my place beside Damien, and making me take her place beside a monster.
Tears found their way to my eyes like they had always done, blurring my vision completely.
Why didn't I see any of these coming? Why did I trust so blindly?
“She's a thief, meant to be cast away from our pack.” Damien resumed. “The more reason why you should take her”
Alpha Kael's lips curled slightly into a smirk before he scoffed.
“You mean, you want me to take scraps?” He asked.
A thief. Scraps.
Those words hit and made my throat tighten as I battled with my tears.
They were deciding my life right in front of me and I couldn't do anything to stop them. When they branded me a thief, I couldn't defend myself, and now they were deciding the rest of my life without my permission!
“No, that's not what I mean” Damien’s face suddenly drained of color.
“Deal” Alpha Kael said. “I will be taking her”
“No, please….” I cried, but even myself was confused because I didn't know what I was begging for.
I watched the satisfaction on Damien and Sabrina's face as they smiled, having successfully traded me for the peace of the pack which never treated me like I belonged to them.
“Take her,” The alpha said to the huge men behind him. They held my arms, leading me out of the hall and I didn't fight them.
Outside the hall, Alpha Kael's phone suddenly started to ring as he walked and he picked up without a bit of hesitation.
“What is the matter?” His cold voice arose.
He went silent for a while and only listened to the voice at the other end of the phone before giving a reply.
“Kill him.” The words landed heavily and made my body tremble. “Make his family watch. And remind them that no one crosses me and go unscathed”
My legs wobbled and I almost fell to the ground. I froze, and was unable to move further after what I had just heard. The Alpha noticed my abrupt pause and turned to me.
He ended the call, stepping closer and my heart almost jumped out of my chest. His face was so close and his breath fanned against my face. The smell of sandalwood filled my nose, the way he looked at me like he possessed me making my heart hammer against my ribs.
He smirked. “Do you know why I chose to take you?”
“I know,” I replied with a shaky voice. “Because I screamed at you in the hallway”
He called me scrap, and that was because he couldn't settle for someone like me even if I was a replacement given to him instead of my sister. He only agreed to take me because of what happened in the hallway, just to make my life miserable for daring to talk to him like that.
“Good. I like that you are smart” he turned, and resumed walking.
“Are you going to kill me because of that?” I summoned my courage to ask. My heart thumped in my chest and I crazily anticipated his response.
“How should I kill you?” He said. “Cut your limbs one by one until there's nothing left?”
My throat bobbled and my face got filled with instant fear.
“Or drown you in water until you die of suffocation?”
His face was so damn serious and that made my breath quicken.
I stumbled backwards in disbelief. “Please tell me this is a joke. You kill people because they bump into you?”
He chuckled with his face darkened. “And you jump to conclusions like that?”
I didn't respond. Once again, he stepped into me, his hand tilting my chin up to take a proper look at him.
“I will claim you, Sasha,” His lips curled. “Until everyone knows you are mine”
That moment, something snapped and I felt it. The bond!
Mate….. He's my second chance mate.
