Prologue
Ravenna's POV This is where it all begins. We all have crazy desires, but it’s another thing for those dreams to come true. ***** I’ve lost count—how much more would I bleed, cry, and face everything head-on? "What? Cat got your tongue, Rave? Awww." Catherine whined as she leaned in, breaking another egg violently on my head. She knew I couldn’t retaliate. I was an Omega, with no strength to fight back. So all I could do was take their insults and beatings. "Why are you doing this, Catherine?" I groaned, sweeping the shell and liquid off my forehead. They all giggled as they watched me struggle to stand, my breath ragged. "Are you really asking me why, Rave?" Her eyes darkened, and the smile vanished from her face as she clenched her fist—something I noticed easily, since my head was bowed. In Lycos, Omegas aren’t allowed to look someone higher in rank directly in the eye, but I still knew every little thing Catherine did—her eye-roll when disturbed, the way her gaze darkened with anger. She stepped closer, grabbing my chin and forcing me to meet her gaze. Leaning in, she whispered, denying the other girls the pleasure of overhearing. "You think I wouldn’t know about how you bang our uncle in secret? Know your place, Ravenna," she hissed, her words dripping with venom. My heart pounded in shock, my eyes wide as I forgot how to breathe. "W-what?" I stammered. She pulled back, a smug smile tugging at the corners of her lips. How did she find out? No one was supposed to know about Uncle and me. "Surprised, little Ravenna? Aww, poor baby!" She jeered, jabbing at my soft spot. I gritted my teeth in rage. What’s so wrong about falling in love with him? He’s a werewolf too! What’s her problem? She has everything—my parents’ love. I even used to think she was the best sister in the world, but then, suddenly, she became a vile snake. She’s the reason for most of my bruises and near-death experiences. If not for my uncle, I would have been dead by now because he’s the only one I have to support me. "Even if you know, what difference would it make? You’ve always done whatever you wanted. I thought you at least had some affection for me, but now I understand why you’ve changed into the person you are," I muttered under my breath, my quiet words seething with rage that she could feel even from where she stood. "You!" she snapped. I smirked, staring at her darkly. I may not be more powerful than her, but I loved riling her up, even if it meant going back home bruised. "Me, what?" I snapped back. She gritted her teeth as I took a step closer, leaning in to whisper in her ear. "Are you jealous that Uncle loves my p***y and not yours?" My heart pounded in fear. 'Goddess, what am I saying?' I gulped painfully, already tasting the metallic tang of blood before it even hit my tongue. I thought she would react slowly, but she suddenly shoved me back, her face beet red with rage. Her ego must’ve been bruised because she was trembling. "What are you all waiting for? Beat this wench up!" she growled. I tried to stand, but the girls pushed me to the floor. From the corner of my eye, I caught Catherine’s triumphant smirk as she watched me get roughed up. 'Laugh all you want, Cat. I hope you keep smiling till the very end.' ***** Later that evening, at the pack garden… My coming here wasn’t in vain; I came because I wanted to meet Uncle. He told me there was something special he wanted to tell me, and my heart raced with excitement. I stood close to the food table so he would see me when he arrived. I couldn’t count how many times I’d adjusted my dress. My wounds from earlier still ached, but the excitement masked the pain. Just as I was fixing the band of my dress at the neckline, I saw Dmitri, my uncle’s Beta, approaching me. 'Mate.' My wolf echoed repeatedly in my head, and I froze, my breath hitching. My eyes widened as he smiled warmly at me. I quickly turned to the food, pretending I hadn’t seen him. Internally, I prayed to the Moon Goddess to take it back, tears welling in my eyes, my heart thudding painfully against my chest. When I felt his hand tap my shoulder, I jerked, my heart aching as I turned to face him. He flashed an innocent smile, like a ray of sunlight breaking through a cloudy moon. My heart continued to ache as I darted my eyes elsewhere, avoiding his gaze. "Funny that we are—" "I can’t do this, Dmitri," I whispered, letting out a deep sigh. It was better to get through this once and for all. "What do you mean, Rave?" he asked softly, his eyes dripping honey. I clenched my fists tightly, the words choking in my throat. I felt suffocated and dizzy as he caressed the side of my face with his large, calloused hand. I shivered, trying to steel my heart. I clenched my jaw and forced myself to look into his soft, drooling eyes. "I reject you, Beta Dmitri." The words left my lips coldly. The world seemed to slow down, growing eerily quiet as I lifted my head and looked at his face. His gentle smile faded into a blank expression. His gaze dropped, and I saw his jaw clench. "Rave—alright... If this is what you want, I accept," he breathed out painfully. The darkness that shrouded his eyes made me shiver. He looked at me coldly, like he had transformed into a different person. The warmth he once emanated vanished, and he stared intensely at me, as if he was peering into my soul. "There you are." I snapped out of my stare-down with Dmitri at the sound of my uncle’s dark chuckle. With his dark chocolate hair and mint-blue eyes, he walked toward me, a smile perched at the corner of his lips as his eyes bore down on me. He didn’t even glance at Dmitri as his eyes roamed over me from head to toe. I knew what he was thinking by the way he bit down on his lower lip. "Alpha," Dmitri’s dark tone immediately snapped both of us out of our blatant staring. "Oh, Dmitri, I didn’t see you there." My uncle snapped his head to look at Dmitri, flashing him a smile while offering a handshake. I pinched him on the back, making him wince. When Dmitri accepted his hand, Uncle pulled him into a hug. They finished their pleasantries, and Dmitri finally left after giving me one last glance. My heart ached at that look, making me feel like he knew what was happening. I clutched my dress tightly, gulping down nervously. If he knew, he would have said something. "Come here, princess." Uncle caught my arm and pulled me into his embrace. My heart raced, and I nervously looked around, realizing we were already in his study. He was so fast. In the blink of an eye, we had already moved to his study. He turned me to face the table and pushed me to lean against it. His hands caressed the curve of my back, and I placed both hands on the table, relaxing and arching for him. My body, tense just moments ago, relaxed as I let out a heavy sigh of relief. "What was my little princess talking to Dmitri about?" His voice dripped with lust, dark and deep. I shivered as his fingers pinched my hips. "I...I found out that Dmitri was my mate, but I rejected him." My words rushed out, afraid he would get angry if I didn’t answer quickly. A brief silence followed my response. I turned my head slightly to see what he was doing, only for him to press my head down against the table. I let out a muffled groan as his fingers grazed my butt cheeks while he tore the end of my dress, exposing me. "Oh my, you are such an obedient girl," he praised, his husky voice igniting something in the pit of my stomach. I squirmed. He didn’t waste any time. Before I could count the thoughts in my head, he shoved his thick length into my core, drawing a gasp from my lips. My body trembled as I welcomed him inch by inch. Once he was settled deep inside me, we were both gasping for breath. A bead of sweat rolled down my cheek, and my lips wobbled as a moan escaped. He began to thrust, starting slow and then quickening, until all I could do was scream. My insides were already melting from being rammed countless times—from the table to the couch, and finally to his chair. We were about to move again when suddenly, blood gurgled out of my lips, followed by a groan. Tears rolled down my face as I looked down at my belly, seeing an old sword glinting in the darkness. When I lifted my eyes, I met Dmitri’s darkened gaze. "You—" He didn’t give me the chance to finish as he suddenly withdrew the sword. A sharp pain tore through me, forcing a gasp from my lips. I slipped down from Uncle’s body, collapsing onto the cold floor. I wasn’t a strong werewolf, so I couldn’t heal. My vision blurred as I watched Uncle rush toward me, his face twisted with desperation, ignoring the danger. I struggled to reach for his hand, but suddenly Dmitri descended upon him. Uncle tried to block the attack, but with a muffled scream, I watched as Dmitri drove the sword into his heart. Dmitri twisted the blade, and blood spewed from Uncle’s mouth, some splattering onto my face. Uncle fell to the floor, yet somehow, he managed to crawl toward me. Our hands were almost touching when Dmitri delivered the final blow, and Uncle’s hand fell, lifeless. Tears streamed down my face as I lay there, helpless. It was in that moment that I silently vowed to the Moon Goddess—if I were given another chance, I would make them all pay. I would choose a different fate. As death began to claim me, Catherine appeared before my eyes, her presence sudden and unsettling. She placed a hand on Dmitri’s shoulder, a cruel smile twisting her lips. “I told you, didn’t I? She would choose him over you. You should have gotten rid of them when I suggested it,” she hissed, her voice dripping with malice. But it was too late for me to even move a muscle. “Die for me, Ravenna,” she whispered. Those were the last words I heard before my eyes closed in eternal slumber. 'Please... just one chance...'
