Hannah’s POV
“So you came here from the hospital?” My uncle asked.
I nodded my head.
“Atlas took me to the hospital,” I told him.
“Atlas?”
“The same kid that was with me at the orphanage” I reminded him.
“The one you kept saying his name after I came to take you from the orphanage?”
I nodded my head in agreement.
Atlas and I used to be in the same orphanage years back. He was my first love, not until I met Liam.
I remembered waking up to rays of light peering into my eyes.
Everywhere looked blurry, and I only saw fragments of people wearing white and another in a tailored suit, but their faces were blurry.
“Are you okay?”
“Can you see me?”
I kept hearing muffled voices in my ear, unsure of the one I should reply to.
“You are pregnant”, the word dropped like a bombshell.
Within seconds, the blurry people looked clear, I could see their faces.
“What?” I asked the doctor.
“You are about a month pregnant,” he said.
I didn’t know what to say, I just sat still in silence, staring into a blank space.
“I figured you are the father of the child” The doctor turned to Atlas.
“Ermm….” He tried to say.
“He isn’t” I spoke up.
“I will tell the nurse to go prepare for your discharge and tell you all you need for your baby,” the doctor said before leaving me alone with Atlas.
I looked at him briefly and turned away from him, ashamed of myself.
Never in my life had I ever thought this was the way I could meet Atlas again.
“Do you want to call your husband and tell him about the news?”
I shook my head.
“The people at the office said you claimed to be the CEO’s wife” There was a pause before he spoke again.
“Are you?” He said.
“I don’t know…….anymore”
“Everyone knew Liam’s wife. I attended their wedding” He said.
“Wedding?” I inquired.
Liam’s parents and my uncle were the only ones present at our wedding. When I had asked him why there was no crowd, he had said he loved it to be an intimate relationship between both of us.
“That lying bastard,” I blurted out.
Atlas' eyes widened in shock, and I turned my eye away from him.
I needed to meet with Liam. I tried to stand up from the hospital bed when Atlas held me up.
“Don’t you think you need more rest?” He asked.
I looked around the room and realised that I was in the VIP room.
“You brought me here?” I asked him.
“Yes, I did”
“Isn’t this too expensive for you? Does Liam pay you that much to squander” I confronted him.
“Pay me?” he narrowed his eyes at me.
“Do you have any idea when Liam will be done with the meeting?”
Atlas turned to look at his watch “he should be done, I can’t believe I missed it”
“I am sorry, do you want me to speak with him on your behalf? I will tell him, you brought me to the hospital.
“No need, I wasn’t that interested in the meeting anyway”
I was surprised at his outburst. He sounded confident and elegant.
“You have really changed; what happened to the young and timid Atlas?” I chuckled.
“You have changed too; what happened to the smart Annie?” he retorted back.
The word Annie brought back a lot of memories, Atlas was the only one who called me that name, and it was years ago.
Looking up at him, I smiled before asking, “Can you take me back to the company?”
“You want to go back?”
“Are you not coming down?” I asked once I alighted from his car.
Based on my request, Atlas drove me back to the company.
Go ahead first,” he said.
I walked back into the company, and I could feel eyes on me. I definitely made quite the impression earlier.
“You aren’t allowed in” Liam’s secretary said.
“Well, watch me,” I said before barging into Liam’s office in a rage.
Liam was seated behind the mahogany table when I barged in; his secretary followed me behind.
“Sir, I told her she couldn’t come in,” the secretary said.
“It’s fine” he smiled at her, and she went back to her desk, leaving both of us.
“What a quite surprise, Hannah,” he said, a smile displaying on his lips.
The anger in me seemed to vanish as he smiled at me, and I walked towards him.
“What’s going on? I came earlier, and I heard stupid news; they were saying April is your wife, like April, your cousin,” I said.
“Hannah” He called my name, but I kept going.
“Do you know today is our wedding anniversary? Is that why you pranked me like that? If I must confess, I had quite the heartbreak”
“Hannah” He called out my name again.
“Yes,” I smiled at him.
He opened his drawer and picked up a file which he dropped in front of me.
I picked the file up with a smile until the smile disappeared from my lips.
“What is this?”
“What does it look like?”
“You are not…this must be a joke…is This is another prank…you are not divorcing me, right?” I said, my lips quivering.
“I am, Hannah”
“Why? What did I do? Was it because I came to your office unannounced? I am sorry for not listening to you; I promise to obey you henceforth,” I begged.
“You can’t do this to me,” I said, tears already streaming down my cheeks.
“The hell he can,” April said, walking into the room, her heels clicking against the marble floor.
“What’s going on?” I asked, shifting my gaze to April as she approached us and back at Liam.
“How dense can you be” she laughed.
“Ohhh, is it that the kitchen smoke you are used to has brainwashed your logic?” She said, standing in front of me.
“I wanted this fun to last longer, so bad it has to come to an end”
With that, she walked past me and pulled Liam up for a kiss, which he didn’t fight against but pulled her closer to him.
“What the hell is going on? You both are cousins” I yelled.
“We have been childhood lovers, not cousins” she scoffed
“Can’t believe she fell for the lie”, she turned to Liam, who laughed it off.
“We are married,” Liam said, turning the wedding portrait on his table and tilting it towards me.
My hand flew to my mouth.
