Just dinner, I promise

Eric I sat down to start working. Or at least I hope that I'll get some work done. Honestly, I'm so full of nervous energy, that getting any form of work done is a laughable idea. I have five hours to kill before getting to New York. It is hard to be this close to my mate and not be able to be near her. I want to talk to her, touch her. My wolf and I have waited almost a decade for her, and she didn't even feel the mate bond. I opened my laptop to see an email from my mom, Marie. "I just got several angry phone calls from Luna's about canceled dates. I hope you have a good reason why they were canceled... I've been on the phone non-stop for almost an hour and a half. Please reply soon, so that I can give them a good reason. Love Mom". I sighed, my poor mother. She had been against the dates from the beginning but respected my wishes and helped set everything up. Now, she is taking the brunt of Luna's rage towards their daughters. She and my father were fated mates, but they found each other in their early twenties. "I have the best reason for canceling them; I found my fated Mate. She is from the Mount Wood pack. She is the Alpha and Luna's daughter….She is unshifted, though. Drew has made an appointment with Dr. Moore. Any advice on how to tell her that I'm her mate and get her to trust me? This feels like I'm starting from scratch. Almost like I would start with a human mate.". I hit send and took a sip of my whiskey. "Maybe I should drink more of this? Liquid courage?" "I'm not fond of that idea. " Tell her it's not that hard," says my wolf Josh. I sigh, "You're right. Smelling like alcohol isn't impressive either". Massaging my temples, I turned to my mother's reply. That was quick. She must be excited. "That's great news!! I will help take care of everything. I know the Mount Wood pack. We have traded wine and lumber with them for a long time. You even met them and their daughter once when you were a pup. Just take her on a date and explain it to her. Her parents were fated mates. She was going to be the future Alpha. She will listen. Where did my overly confident pup go? I know this isn't an ideal way to meet your mate, but go on a date, enjoy yourself, and be your best self. Love Mom" Amber I made my way toward the terminal. This is my first time in New York. This month, they're short on staff, so I'm being paid to stay until they fly back to California. This job couldn't get any better if we tried. The plan was to be there for four days while the Alpha speed dates as many future Luna's as possible. I, on the other hand, planned on seeing the city. Enjoying the food and maybe a museum or two. I started heading towards the Airtrain, my ride into the city. I could have ridden in a Lyft with the Captain, but I wanted to experience the city, starting with riding on a Subway. "Amber, Wait!" Calls Eric as he rushes out of the jet after her. I turned, somewhat surprised, "Did he get more attractive in five hours?" I thought and caught myself before saying anything stupid. What is with me today? "That landing was smooth. Captain Smith mentioned that you did most of the flying on the way here," said Eric. "Did he just stop to compliment me on my flying?" I thought. "Thank you, Eric. Now, if you excuse me, I have a train to catch." I said while smiling and trying to keep things professional. He seemed confident and calm before, but he is fidgeting a bit now. "Do you have anywhere planned for dinner tonight?" asked Eric. "Uh, not yet. Do you have any suggestions?" "Yes, a date with me, seven o'clock," said Eric. I feel shocked, and I'm sure that my face shows it. He's an Alpha. Alpha from one of the biggest packs in the country. Going on a date with a woman without a wolf doesn't make any logical sense. Especially since he has probably a dozen dates with other women. Women who have their wolves. "I uh, I wouldn't make good Luna Material," I replied... it's the truth. I've been on my own for a while. Plus, I don't have a wolf. I know of packs with humans, Luna's, but with a pack like his, that wouldn't work. They're one of the oldest packs in existence. This means that they have a level of respect within the werewolf community. There is no way I would meet his standards. But that isn't something I can just explain here in a human-filled airport. "It's just dinner, I promise," replied Eric. I decided to agree. Although, I'm not sure why. What is the worst that can happen?
