Misunderstanding

"Is it true...?" "Did you visit me while I was unconscious? Why did you come here?" Joyce Evans' mind raced. Suddenly, a light bulb went off in her head. She remembered the masked man Sofia William had brought her to see. Could it be...? After a brief moment of thought, she seemed to understand the situation. Her eyes softened, and she put on a vulnerable expression. "I heard Sofia William was unwillingly married to a man in a coma. She said he was dying and wanted to leave behind his bloodline to claim the inheritance. When I arrived, the room was filthy. I advised her to treat you better, but she said you were dying and didn't care. So, I cleaned the room and wiped your body. I'm sorry... I didn't know it was you, Mr. Milton. Did I do something wrong?" Harland Milton's dark eyes flashed. "The person who cleaned my body and talked to me constantly, that was you?" Joyce's heart leaped with joy, and she nodded repeatedly. She had vaguely heard Sofia mention that she had cleaned this man's body, so she took a gamble and said it. To her surprise, it paid off. Harland, who had been in a coma at the time, hadn't clearly heard what was said. But indeed, it was because of this incessantly talking woman that he gradually woke up. His gaze returned to Joyce. "I suppose I owe you. How much do you want?" "I don't want money. It was just a small favor. How could I ask for money? I just couldn't stand seeing Sofia William bully people. I didn't even know that man was Mr. Harland. I'm just happy you're awake," Joyce Evans said, her voice full of sincerity. In her mind, Joyce thought she wasn't that short-sighted. By refusing money, maybe Harland Milton would see her differently. He was the richest man in the country. If he took notice of her, money would never be an issue in the future! She couldn't believe Sofia William's luck. The man she encountered turned out to be Harland Milton. But Sofia wasn't as smart as she was… Harland Milton's gaze softened as he looked at her. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "Alright, Elijah, take Miss Diana to Riverside Villa to rest." Riverside Villa... That was a mansion worth a billion dollars. Joyce almost jumped for joy. It seemed she had made the right bet! Meanwhile, Sofia was still wandering outside, unsure of where to go. She had been living in the old villa. Though it was rundown, at least she had food and shelter. But Harland Milton's murderous look had terrified her. She didn't dare go back. And what about the William Family? Would anyone welcome her back there? Sofia William scrolled through her phone contacts. Her best friend, Heidi, was still abroad and hadn't returned yet. With no other options, she decided to call Joyce Evans. "Sofia? Why are you calling me?" Joyce's voice came through the line. "Joyce, I have nowhere to go. Do you have a place where I can stay for the night?" Sofia asked, rubbing her shivering shoulders. Joyce's tone was cautious. "What happened? Aren't you married? Where's your husband?" "I... he kicked me out. I think we're done. We'll probably get divorced soon," Sofia admitted. Joyce's initial excitement turned cold. "Sofia, I'm really disappointed in you for marrying a comatose man for money. I don't want to be friends with someone like that." With that, Diana hung up the phone. Sofia stood there, stunned. Why did Joyce think that way about her now? She wasn't in it for the money… But staring at the disconnected call, she felt her stomach growl with hunger. She searched her pockets and found only a hundred bucks. She bought a samosa and, with no other choice, spent twenty bucks on a cab to the William Family estate. Knowing that her husband was awake, Sofia thought they might let her stay home for a night. However, before she even entered the house, she heard voices from inside. "Xander, we fully support you being with our Erica. She’s about to start working at the William Family company. Erica is not only beautiful but also incredibly talented. She will definitely help the company thrive. You two are a perfect match," said Julia. Then Xander's voice followed, "Being with Erica is my good fortune. Girls like her, smart, capable, and gentle, are rare." "Yes, you need to tell your family that even though Erica has lived abroad for many years, she is very competent. You shouldn't underestimate her. She just won the architecture design competition. Look, she even brought the trophy home." Sofia was instantly wide awake. Architecture competition? Wasn't that the one she participated in? When did Erica Williamlearn architecture design? The William Family was in real estate, so Sofia had studied architecture design in school, planning to join the family company after graduation. But getting married had disrupted her plans. She had completely forgotten about the competition she entered. Who knew… "Mom." The sudden voice interrupted the conversation inside. As Sofia walked in, looking frail, the smiles on everyone's faces froze instantly. “Sofia, what are you doing back here?" Julia stood up, furious, and walked over, glancing back at Luke, and grabbed Sofia's arm. "Why didn't you tell us you were coming back?” Sofiaa's gaze was fixed on Erica William. "Erica, what was that about the competition you were just talking about?" Erica's eyes darted around in panic before she suddenly hid behind Luke. "Sofia, please don't be like this. Don't hit me again. If you're upset, I'll break up with Xander right now." Sofia's unexpected return had Erica cursing internally. She had just taken all of Sofia's design drafts from her room. Could Sofia be back for those? But those drafts didn't have any signatures, and many were just sketches. Erica could easily claim them as her own designs, and Sofia wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Erica clung tightly to Xander's shirt, trembling like a scared kitten behind him. Seeing her so weak and dependent on him, Xander felt a mix of satisfaction and heartache. It was as if, in her eyes, only he could protect her. This made him feel a surge of masculine pride. Julia's mind was racing with Erica recent words, "What did you say? Sofia William hit you before?" She glared at Sofia a, her eyes filled with anger. "Erica never told me any of this. So, she's been defending you, and you still hit her? Sofia, I don't want to see you anymore. Get out!”
