Be Alert Pt. 4

            Sierra grabbed me, “See you when we are ready, Alexander.” I walked downstairs. I grabbed my plate. EJ groaned, “I know she’s nervous, but damn if this isn’t the best breakfast I’ve had. I could eat it...all day.” My mom snorted, “That’s good. It’s going to be at the mating ceremony.” My brothers actually cheered. An hour later, I snapped myself ready and Melanie came down in a bright red and black dress that looked a little retro. Sierra matched her with a purple and black dress. It went right below her mid thigh. I growled and pulled her into me. She smiled. My dad laughed, “Alright...we need to pop there.” Melanie’s palms were sweating. I linked her, “It will be ok.” Cassie popped in and grabbed the girls. She smiled, “I’m popping us girls to the bride. Later!” She popped away. I popped to Jason. I smiled, “Hey man.” Unease and nauseous shot up so hard from my ankle I swayed. EJ grabbed me, “Alexander?” I stumbled away. I felt sick. It was hard to breathe. I began to head towards Jason’s house. That’s where the girls would be, and this wasn’t me feeling this way. I’d never felt more drunk in my life as I tried to walk there. Suddenly, I felt perfectly fine. I frowned. Jason followed me, “Alexander? What happened?” I stared at the house, “I think Melanie was sick.” Cassie popped out to me. She smiled, “Happy mating day Jason! I need to borrow my brother for a second.” T walked over, “Space unheard.” Cassie pursed her lips. 

            EJ spoke the chant. I guess he’d followed me too. T said, “What happened to Mel? Alexander thought she was sick.” Cassie winced, “She was….violently ill…” I snarled, “The f*****g rings! It was for Red Run!” Cassie winced, “That’s what Paige said. She needs at least a week to prepare the spell brew….it’s something Melanie has to drink or something…..I’m so sorry Jason….Mel didn’t want you to know. She made Addison promise to have your ceremony today. She also….made me promise to keep you here big brother. She said Jason needs you.” I growled, “So she’s all alone?” Cassie shook her head, “No, she called a friend….who shimmered in. Valentina. Addison made her promise to stay with Mel. Addison was really sad until she got a text. She laughed and said Mel always figured out a way.” I frowned, “What does that mean?” Cassie shrugged, “I was told to make sure you stayed here.” I sighed, “Fine.” Cassie went to give the news to our parents, and Jason went to tell his. EJ sighed, “She tried man. This wasn’t in her control or ours.” 

            Corbin came up smiling then frowned, “What now?” We explained. Corbin raised his eyebrow, “Oh...I gotta see what Paige does. The spell I know of takes a month to brew. She can do it in a week? Goddamn this girl….is good.” EJ snorted, “You’d better watch that.” Corbin shrugged, “I told your Alpha friend it’s about her talent. I’m not romantically interested in her.” I smirked, “Why?” Corbin snorted, “She’s mated.” I nodded, “Uh huh. I see you cousin.” I did. I wondered if Melanie knew who Corbin was interested in...She’d been around watching over us. She could’ve seen him with someone. She had to know if Corbin had a girlfriend. I asked, “Any update on if I can mark Mel?” Corbin sighed, “We can’t find anything concrete either way. I set Paige on the task at our coven meeting. She is….determined to find an answer.” I sighed, “Alright.” Corbin sighed, “I’m sorry man.” I shrugged, “Blame the ring and the McCann’s. I do.” Corbin snorted, “Damn straight. Along with this older dark witch.” T walked over, “We gotta get up there Alexander.” Mid ceremony I noticed Several of Melanie’s friends discreetly looking at their watches. I quickly looked at Cayden who had gone on alert. He had an arm around Cassie protectively. I asked Oden, “Is mate near?” Oden sighed, “I can’t tell if she’s here. I don’t smell her….but I’d swear she is.” I raised an eyebrow. I linked EJ, “Something is up.” He nodded, “I know.” I linked Cayden, “What happened with the watches?” Cayden answered, “The screen flashed and said: Be on alert. We aren’t alone.” My head was drawn to the side of Red Run’s territory with Alpha Raven. When I heard what sounded faintly like a fight. We were too far away to truly tell. EJ linked, “Oh f**k me. Is Mel on the border so she can watch?” I linked, “I don’t know. Oden can’t smell her.” I linked her, “Melanie?” I got nothing in response. 

            Jason and Addison were announced as husband and wife. A red dot appeared on Jason’s head before it disappeared.  A shot sounded into the air. Addison jumped onto Jason. I yelled, “CASS GET THE f**k OUT OF HERE NOW!” I took off for the border with Alpha Raven. Ten rounds fired in succession around me, but not aimed anywhere near me. I heard people falling out of trees. Then I smelled them. EJ popped to me and we shifted. Rogues. They came out running at us. I snarled. We began to fight. I used my powers along with EJ. Elise joined us fighting by our side. We’d covered this side and doubled back to the group. After several minutes our warriors were shimmered in by two male demons. One looked around, “SAM MCALISTER!” Sam’s wolf turned towards him. He smirked and shimmered to her. He began to set every wolf around her on fire. We all stared at him a second as our warriors made quick work of the fight. Liam shifted back, “We have to get to the Muffin Luna...I mean Melanie. Sorry...habit.” I shifted back and snarled, “WHY?” Liam sighed, “She ordered us here…..” One of the demons shimmered out. I growled. The demon guarding Sam laughed, “He’s fine. He’s off getting a key player. We have to go back up Mel.” I asked, “And you are?” He smiled, “Crush. Pleasure to meet you.” T shifted back, “Holy shit...CRUSH?! Where have you been?” Crush smiled, “Long story man.” 

            I growled, “Why do we need to back up Melanie?!” Liam sighed, “This was a distraction.” Addison growled, “MOTHER f*****g ASSHOLES! THEY CAN’T LET ME HAVE ONE DAY!” Crush spoke, “Mel got you enough time to get married. The real fight is on that pack that could not attend.” EJ and I spoke at the same time, “Alpha Theo….” Crush nodded. I yelled, “BLACK MOUNTAIN WARRIORS ON ME NOW!” They ran to me and everyone grabbed onto my siblings as we popped into a very large battle going down. It was the largest rogue attack I’d ever seen. I snarled in anger as I saw my mate covered in blood. I could tell some of it was hers. She stared at the edge of the opposite boundary. She screamed, “GET YOUR COWARD POMPOUS SENDING IN PEOPLE TO FIGHT YOUR BATTLES ASS OUT HERE YOU ASSHOLE! BLACK MOUNTAIN’S BEST TRACKERS AND WARRIORS HAVE CUT OFF YOUR ESCAPE! GET OUT HERE AND FIGHT ME GOD DAMMIT!” Drake yelled, “MELANIE!” She hissed, “I challenge you Ezra!” My eyes widened. EJ winced, “Tell me that’s not who I think….she did not just challenge Alpha Ezra….that’s not a thing...is it?” 

             Alpha Ezra came out of the tree line and smirked at the McAlister’s. Specifically Drake. Elise screamed. Alpha Ezra was a damn good fighter. EJ sighed, “Oh good...it’s exactly who I thought it was. Why, dear god??? Aesir….Why me? Why us? Just why?” Alpha Ezra sneered at Drake as he answered Melanie, “It’s Alpha and I accept your challenge Melanie McAlister… to the death.” I snarled. Alpha Ezra laughed, “ATTACK!” His pack came out. I was angry. All his pack was doing was keeping us from getting to Melanie. We could beat them...easily. Melanie flew at Alpha Ezra while he stared down Drake McAlister. My heart leaped into my throat as they began to fight. EJ linked me, “FOCUS! We need to get to them.” I nodded. I’d get to my Love bug. My men were surrounding her, but they couldn’t interfere with a challenge. I linked them, “If she going to lose….fuck the rules. She issued the challenge and it wasn’t to the death. He can’t change the challenge. You save her. Do you hear me?” They all answered, “Yes, Alpha.” The rest of our warriors were in the middle of Alpha Theo’s pack working to get to us. I roared. Several stopped moving. Good. They should know…I was f*****g pissed and they were going to die because of it.
