Chapter 1

1086 Words
The moon hung high in the night sky, casting a silver glow over the dense forest that surrounded the Silver Blood Moon pack’s territory. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and the distant rustle of nocturnal creatures. Alpha Selene moved silently through the trees, her senses sharp, her mind focused. She was the first female alpha in the history of the pack, a title that came with heavy expectations and even heavier burdens. Selene had always been strong, even as a young pup. She had fought tooth and nail to earn the respect of her pack, to prove that she was capable of leading them. But tonight, her thoughts were clouded with memories she wished she could forget. Memories of him. Her chosen mate. The one she had trusted, the one she had loved with all her heart, had betrayed her in the most unforgivable way. He had broken their bond, shattering her trust and leaving her with a wound that had yet to heal. The pain had made her stronger, but it had also made her colder, more ruthless. As she patrolled the edge of the territory, a sudden movement caught her eye. Her instincts kicked in, and she crouched low, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the darkness. There, just beyond the tree line, a lone wolf emerged, its fur dark and matted, its posture weary but alert. Selene’s heart skipped a beat. There was something familiar about the wolf, something that made her blood run cold. She stepped closer, her eyes never leaving the rogue as it moved cautiously through the forest. The moonlight filtered through the trees, illuminating the wolf’s face, and Selene’s breath caught in her throat. It couldn’t be. But the resemblance was undeniable. The wolf looked just like him. Her mind raced, emotions swirling in a tempest of anger and pain. The memories of her past flooded back, each one a sharp dagger to her heart. The betrayal, the humiliation, the loss—it all came rushing back with a force that nearly knocked the air out of her lungs. But Selene was not one to be overwhelmed by emotion. She was an alpha, and she had a duty to her pack. She straightened, her expression hardening as she locked eyes with the rogue wolf. With a sharp command, she signaled to her warriors, who had been following her at a distance. They moved swiftly, surrounding the rogue and cutting off any chance of escape. The rogue growled low, its eyes darting from one warrior to the next, but it made no move to attack. Selene stepped forward, her gaze never wavering. “Who are you?” she demanded, her voice cold and authoritative. “Why are you here?” The rogue did not respond. It simply stood there, its eyes meeting hers with a mix of defiance and something else—something she couldn’t quite place. “Answer me,” Selene growled, her patience wearing thin. Still, the rogue remained silent, its eyes locked on hers. There was a challenge in its gaze, a challenge that both infuriated and intrigued her. “Alpha, should we take him down?” one of her warriors asked, breaking the tense silence. Selene shook her head, her eyes never leaving the rogue. “No. He’s coming with us.” The decision was made in an instant, driven by a mix of anger and curiosity. She couldn’t let this wolf go—not when he looked so much like the one who had torn her heart apart. She needed to know who he was, why he was here, and why he resembled her former mate so closely. “Restrain him,” she ordered, her voice leaving no room for argument. The warriors moved quickly, securing the rogue with chains designed to hold even the strongest of wolves. The rogue resisted at first, its growls growing louder, but it was no match for the combined strength of Selene’s warriors. Within moments, the rogue was subdued, bound, and at Selene’s mercy. As they began the trek back to the pack’s stronghold, Selene walked at the front, her mind racing with questions. Who was this wolf? Why did he look so much like her ex-mate? And what was she going to do with him now that she had him in her custody? The rogue was led behind her, its head held low but its eyes still defiant. Selene could feel the weight of those eyes on her back, and it sent a shiver down her spine. This wolf was more than just a rogue; she could sense it. There was something about him, something that stirred a deep unease within her. By the time they reached the pack’s territory, the moon was high in the sky, casting long shadows over the ground. The pack members who were still awake watched in silence as their alpha returned with a captive in tow. Whispers of confusion and curiosity spread through the ranks, but no one dared to approach or question her. Selene led the rogue to a small, heavily guarded cell near the edge of the pack’s main settlement. It was a place reserved for the most dangerous of enemies, and it was where she would keep the rogue until she decided what to do with him. As the cell door clanged shut, Selene stood outside, staring at the wolf through the bars. He stared back, his eyes glowing in the dim light, filled with a mix of defiance and something else—something that made her heart ache in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time. “I’ll find out who you are,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. “And why you’ve come here.” The rogue didn’t respond, but Selene didn’t need words to know that this was only the beginning of something far more complicated than she had anticipated. As she turned to leave, the rogue’s eyes followed her, and for a brief moment, she felt as if she was being pulled back into a past she had tried so hard to forget. But she shook off the feeling, reminding herself of who she was—Alpha Selene, leader of the Silver Blood Moon pack. And she would not be swayed by ghosts of the past. With a final glance at the rogue, she walked away, her heart heavy with questions and a growing sense of dread about what she had just brought into her pack.
