A New Friend

“When you do talk to people, share what you are. Stop focusing on all the things that you aren’t. Stop focusing on all of the physical features that you think people won’t like about you. Stop focusing on your inabilities or lack of talent. Instead, focus on those physical features that you know people already love about you. Focus on your abilities and the talents that you do have. You have been blessed with all of the above, and that makes you worth getting to know in my book.” ― Dan Pearce ________________________________________________________________________________ ROSE The scent of chocolate filled the room as I sat on the bed, my legs crossed, eagerly awaiting breakfast. Xavier, my mate and Alpha, stood nearby, his amusement evident in his voice. “You have quite a sweet tooth, love,” he remarked, a playful glint in his eyes. I grinned, mischief dancing in my gaze. “Nah, I just love chocolate,” I replied, my voice laced with anticipation. The tantalizing aroma tickled my senses, and my mouth watered in response. There was a soft knock on the door, and I called out, “Yes?” Intrigued, I wondered who could be on the other side. The door creaked open, revealing a young girl about my age, her shy smile tugging at my heart. I gestured for her to come in, and she stepped forward, delicately balancing a tray filled with an array of delectable treats. “Um, uh, Luna, I have your breakfast,” she stammered nervously, her voice barely above a whisper. My eyes widened at the sight before me, the mouthwatering feast beckoning me. However, a thought crossed my mind—I couldn’t possibly enjoy this delightful spread alone. An idea formed, and I couldn’t help but extend an invitation. “Would you like to join me?” I offered, hoping to ease her nerves. The girl hesitated, surprise flickering in her eyes. “I can’t, Luna,” she replied hesitantly. I insisted, warmth in my voice. “Please, I insist. Besides, I can’t finish all of this by myself. It’s quite a lot for just one person,” I assured her, my words filled with genuine concern. Reluctantly, she nodded and took a seat beside me. “Thank you, Luna,” she whispered, her gratitude palpable. I smiled, wanting to make her feel comfortable. “You can call me Rose. None of that Luna business, okay? Also, you don’t need to be so tense around me. I don’t bite unless you’re a threat. Are you a threat, Gemma?” I asked playfully, hoping to lighten the mood. A hint of laughter escaped her, and she shook her head. “No, certainly not, Lu… Rose,” she replied, catching herself before using the formal title. I chuckled, relieved to see her relax a little. “In that case, you have nothing to worry about. We’re just two friends enjoying a delicious breakfast together,” I said, picking up a fluffy choco-chip pancake and taking a bite. As we indulged in the delectable food, Gemma and I began to open up to each other. The initial shyness melted away, replaced by shared laughter and heartfelt conversations. We discovered common interests and shared dreams, forging a bond that seemed to deepen with every passing moment. Between mouthfuls, I learned that Gemma was not just a talented cook, but also possessed a kind heart and a quick wit. Her presence was a breath of fresh air, and I couldn’t help but feel that our paths had crossed for a reason. As we savored the last bites of our meal, Kade approached, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I hope you enjoyed the surprise breakfast,” he said, his voice filled with playful anticipation. I looked at him, curiosity piqued. “Oh, it was delicious. But what’s this surprise you mentioned earlier?” I inquired, unable to hide my excitement. Xavier’s smile widened. “Well, my love, that’s for me to know and for you to find out,” he replied, his tone filled with tantalizing mystery. He leaned closer, planting a gentle kiss on my forehead. “But for now, why don’t you freshen up? I promise the surprise will be worth the wait.” The mention of a surprise filled me with anticipation and intrigue. “I love surprises! Is there anything I should know?” I asked, hoping to gather a hint or two. Kade’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Not much, just dress casually,” he replied, leaving me with more questions than answers. “Hmm, that’s not a whole lot to go on,” I muttered to myself, pondering the possibilities. I turned to Gemma, who had been quietly observing our exchange. “What do you think it could be?” I asked, a playful glimmer in my eyes. Gemma shrugged, a playful smile playing on her lips. “Knowing Kade, it could be anything from a spontaneous adventure to a surprise party. He does have a flair for the unexpected. And since your his mate, he might go the extra mile,” she replied, her voice filled with amusement. I chuckled, appreciating her insight. “Well, I guess I’ll have to wait and see,” I said, rising from the bed. “Thank you for joining me, Gemma. This breakfast was delightful, and your company made it even more special.” Gemma’s smile widened, her eyes sparkling. “It was my pleasure, Rose. Anytime you need someone to share a meal with, just let me know,” she replied warmly. With a grateful nod, I made my way to the bathroom, my thoughts buzzing with anticipation and curiosity. As I freshened up, I couldn’t help but wonder what surprise awaited me and how it would deepen the bonds that were slowly forming within our newfound pack. Little did I know that this surprise would be the catalyst for a series of events that would forever change my path as a Luna and the destiny of our pack. Sitting beneath the shade of a towering tree, I found myself in the company of Emma, the Royal cook. Unexpected circumstances had delayed my date with Xavier, leaving me with hours to spare. Wanting to make the most of the situation and connect with the pack members, I decided to get to know Emma better. Curiosity sparked within me as I looked at Emma, genuinely interested in her story. “So, how did you end up working for the Royal family?” I asked, a gentle smile on my lips, hoping to create a safe space for her to share. Emma hesitated, her gaze dropping. “It’s a long story, and you probably don’t want to hear it,” she replied timidly, uncertainty coloring her voice. Reaching out, I placed a comforting hand on hers, conveying my genuine interest. “I do want to hear it, Emma. I promise I won’t judge,” I assured her, my voice filled with warmth and sincerity. Her eyes met mine, searching for the honesty behind my words. After a moment, she nodded, giving in to my request. “Oh, fine. I’ll tell you, but you have to promise not to laugh or make fun, okay?” she requested, her voice a mix of vulnerability and cautious hope. “I promise,” I replied earnestly, crossing my heart. “I’ll never, scouts honor.” Taking a deep breath, Emma began to share her story. “My family and I were rogues, struggling to get by. One day, we were caught in a rogue attack near the border of the Royal Pack. My father… he sacrificed himself to protect my mom and me.” Her voice wavered with sadness and gratitude as she recounted the painful memory. My heart ached for her, and I enveloped her in a gentle hug, offering comfort and understanding. “Emma, it must have been incredibly tough for you. Being a rogue and losing your father… it’s not an easy burden to bear,” I sympathized, my voice filled with compassion. Emma leaned into the embrace, finding solace in our connection. “It was challenging, but things worked out in the end, didn’t they?” she replied, a glimmer of hope peeking through her sorrow. I pulled back slightly, meeting her eyes with a genuine smile. “You know, the way I see it, our paths led us here for a reason. We’ve both faced struggles, and perhaps it was so that we could meet each other and become the best of friends. Our pasts don’t define us, and titles don’t matter. We’re here now, and I’m grateful to have you as my friend, Emma,” I suggested, believing in the power of destiny. Emma’s face brightened, a radiant smile lighting up her features, and tears welled up in her eyes. “Do you mean it?” she asked, her voice a mix of surprise and joy. “Absolutely,” I affirmed, nodding my head with certainty. “Those were friends. We’ve found each other, and together we’ll create new memories. Our pasts brought us here, but our bond is what will shape our future.” Tears of happiness glistened in Emma’s eyes, and we spent the rest of the day enjoying each other’s company, I have a feeling we’ll become good friends.
