The morning spent with Kade was an absolute delight, showing a more shy side of me that I wasn't aware of. He treated me like his Queen, both figuratively and literally, and his love was unlike anything I had experienced before. It made my heart race, filled me with butterflies, and left me longing for more. As mates, that’s exactly how it should be. “It’s a good thing we gave him a chance,” Silver chimed in. “Yeah, it is.” I stared at my reflection in the full-body mirror, contemplating what to wear today. The weather was pleasant, a rare occurrence in our region. I wanted something casual and light to match the day’s atmosphere. “Hey, love, you seem to be in a good mood,” Kade said, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. He wrapped his hands around my waist, leaning in close with his head resting on my shoulder. He had caught me in the middle of my wardrobe dilemma. “I have a surprise for you,” he whispered. My curiosity piqued. “What is it?” I asked, intrigued. “Well, I have some free time, and I heard from a little wolfie-” I rolled my eyes playfully at his wordplay, replacing “birdie” with “wolfie.” “-that there’s a carnival, and I thought we could go.” Unable to contain my excitement, I let out a little squeal of delight. The carnival had arrived a few days ago, and I had been yearning to go. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for some fun and relaxation. But then, a realization struck me. I had already promised Lily we would go, and a promise is a promise. I hesitated, unsure of how to bring it up or if Kade would even want to go. Lily’s anticipation added to my inner conflict. “Oh!” I exclaimed, my brain momentarily failing to come up with a coherent response. Kade furrowed his brow, a tinge of hurt in his eyes. “Do you not want to go?” he asked, sounding a bit disappointed. Panic washed over me as I hurried to clarify. “No, no, it’s not like that. I do,” I stumbled over my words, desperate to make things right. “It’s just… I promised Lily we would go, and a promise is a promise. And I wasn’t sure if you wanted to or how to bring it up. And Lily really wants to go, so…” His expression softened as he considered my words. “Hmm, I see,” he said, thinking for a moment. “How about this? What if we start the day with just the two of us, and then we invite everyone to join us at the carnival around midday? We can enjoy the day together, and when it gets late, my mom can take Lily home. That way, you and I can have some alone time. How does that sound?” A smile spread across my face. It sounded perfect, just what I had hoped for. “That sounds perfect!” I exclaimed, unable to contain my happiness. “In that case, we’ve got ourselves a date,” Kade declared, his voice filled with satisfaction. I nodded eagerly, grateful that we had found a solution that would please everyone. Our date was going to be amazing. Now, standing in front of the mirror, surrounded by a mountain of clothes, I sighed in frustration. What does one wear on a date with the Alpha King? I had been struggling to find the right outfit, but nothing seemed to fit the occasion. Frustrated, I found myself lying on the bed, lost in a daydream of our date and what the future held for us. Kade’s voice gently pulled me back to reality. “Rose, love,” he said, breaking through my thoughts. “Mhmm,” I hummed, still basking in the euphoria of our time together. Kade chuckled at my dazed state and informed me about his upcoming meeting. He assured me that he would be done in time for the carnival and promised to pick me up afterward, planting a tender kiss on my forehead before leaving. A few minutes passed, and I continued to lie there, lost in a trance. It felt like the same old routine, but today held the promise of something extraordinary. Reluctantly, I dragged myself out of bed, knowing I had to decide on an outfit for the occasion. As I rummaged through my wardrobe, indecisiveness overwhelmed me. But amidst my confusion, I realized that I hadn’t seen Lily in a while. A sense of longing to see my dear friend arose within me. While contemplating my wardrobe dilemma, I heard excited squealing in the distance. I chose a more comfortable and casual outfit—a black crop top paired with distressed jeans. With my attire settled, I set out to locate Lily. But before I could get to it, Kade’s head suddenly popped into the room, Lily in his arms. I smiled, seeing the two of them together warmed my heart. We were like a little family. “Mama!” Lily squealed once she spotted me. “Hey, my little Lilly-pad,” I said, taking her into my arms and snuggling her close. Her delicate little arms wrapped around my neck, and the smell of lilies and strawberries flooded my senses. “Are you ready?” Kade asked, observing our little interaction. Looking at him, I noticed a peculiar expression on his face. “What?” I exclaimed, slightly flustered by his gaze. His smile grew wider as he replied, “Oh, nothing. I’m just mesmerized by your beauty, that’s all.” Blushing, I thanked him, unsure of how to respond. His attention was something I wasn’t accustomed to, having spent most of my life shielded by my overprotective brothers. But I knew I would gradually adjust to this newfound affection from Kade. “Love, you there?” Kade’s voice broke through my thoughts again. I shook off my daydream and refocused, noticing his hand waving in front of me. Sheepishly, I smiled and admitted, “Sorry, I zoned out.” He reassured me and mentioned how adorable I looked when I spaced out, causing my cheeks to flush. Regaining my composure, I nodded and confirmed that I was ready. We made our way to the car, and as we drove, I noticed that we seemed to be the only ones heading to the carnival. Curiosity piqued, I asked Kade about the absence of others. He explained that everyone had already gone ahead and that we would meet up with them at the carnival. Satisfied with his answer, I settled into my seat, gazing out the window and enjoying the scenery. Thirty minutes later, we arrived at the carnival. Excited waves and shouts from our friends greeted us. Joining the rest of the group, I greeted everyone with a smile. The carnival buzzed with excitement, filled with families, friends, and couples enjoying their time together. Being there brought back nostalgic feelings, making me miss my own family. Since I left, I hadn’t been in contact with them, wondering how they were doing. Kade’s concerned expression caught my eye. “Is everything okay, love?” he inquired, his worry palpable. Wanting to avoid dwelling on my concerns, I brushed off his question, hastily assuring him that everything was fine. He smiled, but I could tell he wasn’t entirely convinced. I knew he would likely question me about it later in private, which was fine. For now, I wanted to focus on enjoying the day. “Look, Mama! The ferris wheel!” Lily exclaimed, pointing towards the massive structure that towered over the rest of the carnival. Rose smiled down at her. “Do you want to go on it?” Lily nodded eagerly, her excitement contagious. Rose turned to me, her eyes filled with anticipation. “What do you think, Kade?” “That’s okay with me.” Hours passed by in a blur as we immersed ourselves in the carnival activities. Laughter filled the air as we tested our skills at various games and indulged in sweet treats. My legs ached, and I plopped down on the lush grass, gazing up at the clear night sky adorned with twinkling stars. Today had been amazing. In a flashback, I recalled the thrilling moments we shared, particularly when I teased Kade about his fear of a daunting roller coaster called The Death Drop. He attempted to deny it, but his cuteness gave him away. We laughed, and the night carried on with joyous camaraderie. Returning to the present, I became aware of my rumbling stomach. It seemed impossible to hide my hunger, as it growled loudly. Kade chuckled, teasing me about it. “I see someone’s hungry,” he remarked. My stomach agreed with another rumble, making any denial pointless. “Yup,” I replied eagerly. “What do you have?” I asked, my excitement evident. Kade unveiled a picnic basket, explaining that he had prepared it in advance and filled it with treats for the carnival. The aroma of freshly baked goods wafted from the basket, making my mouth water. With Lily and Cecile having left earlier, it was just Kade and me, as he had promised. “Come on, I’m starving,” I groaned, my impatience showing. He smiled and said, “Coming right up, my lady.” Opening the basket, he revealed an array of delicious treats. There were sandwiches filled with savory ingredients, an assortment of bite-sized pastries, and a colourful selection of fruits. As we enjoyed our meal, a feeling of contentment washed over me. I leaned my head against Kade’s shoulder, taking in the velvety blue sky and the twinkling stars. The night was peaceful, and in his presence, I felt a sense of bliss and ease. Doubts tried to creep in, but I pushed them away. After everything I had been through, I deserved to be happy. Kade’s voice interrupted my thoughts, his concern evident as he asked if I was okay. Looking up at him, I smiled and replied, “I am now.” There was no need to let doubts overshadow our special moments. Kade kissed my temple, and we sat there in comfortable silence, appreciating the serenity of the night. Today had been surreal, almost like a dream. The carnival lights flickered and danced around us, casting a magical glow. I couldn’t deny the voice in the back of my mind that urged caution, but I refused to let it dampen the joy I felt. I had been through enough, and it was time to embrace happiness. Tonight, under the starlit sky, I allowed myself to revel in the magic of the moment. As the night wore on, the carnival came alive with vibrant colors and enchanting melodies. The laughter of children and the cheerful chatter of families surrounded us. The atmosphere was filled with an electric energy, pulsating through the air. I turned to Kade, a smile playing on my lips. “Isn’t it incredible?” I asked, my voice filled with awe. He gazed at me, his eyes sparkling with affection. “It truly is,” he replied, his voice soft. “But you, Rose, you’re the most incredible thing here.” A warm blush spread across my cheeks as his words washed over me. In that moment, surrounded by the magic of the carnival, I realized how lucky I was to have found someone who saw the beauty in me, even when I struggled to see it in myself. We spent the rest of the night wandering hand in hand, experiencing the thrill of the rides, indulging in cotton candy and popcorn, and dancing to the lively music that filled the air. It was a night I would never forget. As the carnival began to wind down and the crowd dispersed, we made our way back to the car, hearts full and memories etched in our minds. The ride back home was quiet, the exhaustion of the day gradually catching up with us. Arriving at the packhouse, Kade helped me out of the car, his arm wrapped around my waist. We walked toward the entrance, and as we reached the doorstep, I turned to face him, a bittersweet feeling settling within me. “Thank you for today,” I whispered, my voice filled with gratitude. Kade smiled, his eyes holding a gentle warmth. “No need to thank me, Rose. Spending this day with you was my pleasure.” I leaned in, capturing his lips in a soft, lingering kiss, savoring the taste and the moment. As we pulled away, a promise hung in the air. Of a future filled with love, laughter, and adventures.
