Robbie saved a little piece of the snake for breakfast and ate it on the fly. He got back on the road and concentrated on the pavement ahead. Once he got around Kenedy, he felt like he was mostly out of danger and sped up a little. The idea of home and his family were exerting a significant pull on him.
Just after noon, as he had expected, he turned off the highway and headed down the road into the property. He meandered his way along the dirt road but stopped short of the Lindgren homestead. He was surprised to see someone had built a new building.
He stopped to have a closer look. No one can live here. It’s not big enough for one person, much less a family.
He checked the doorknob. The squeal of the hinges echoed through the structure as the door swung inward.
