He saw how Kathy had withdrawn into herself when young Charlotte died during Sandra’s invasion of their valley. For a long time, she seldom spoke and often seemed to be in a daze. He didn’t know back then how she had felt with the loss of her daughter, but now he imagined he understood. He had killed many men in his short life, and he felt no remorse for what he did. The thought that they might have been loved by someone else had never crossed his mind. Losing someone dear to your heart is painful, but to Robbie, losing his brother was like having his own heart ripped from his chest. He now understood how Kathy felt. He also realized what his mother and Brooke were feeling. He could feel himself changing. He never had an ounce of compassion for Sandra or her men. He was a killing machine
