Sona’s POV
I didn’t know how to behave anymore. It had been my original plan to tell her before anyone else found out. She was the only person I knew who could keep a secret.
As for my parents, whom I now knew were only my earthly parents, they would drag me to the hospital, insisting I needed to see a doctor. I couldn’t even blame them. Parents always try to do what they think is best for their children.
“Are you okay?” Priya asked, coming closer and trying to remove my hands from my face.
“You must be in pain,” she added, concern evident in her voice.
“No, no, I’m okay,” I said as I finally lowered my hands.
“Jesus! You look amazing with this eye color,” Priya said, staring at me closely.
“Are you wearing lenses? Honestly, if someone just met you today, they would think your eyes are naturally blue.
They’re the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen,” she added in amazement.
I looked at her for a moment, wondering whether to keep her in the dark like I planned to do with everyone else or to tell her the truth.
“Is something bothering you?” she asked after observing my uneasy expression.
I stood up from my chair and began pacing around the office, feeling too restless to stay in one place.
“I have something very important to tell you,” I finally said.
“Did you finally get laid?” she asked excitedly. That had always been her obsession. In just three months, she had dragged me to four different dates. There was no escaping it if you had a friend like her.
“Oh my God, Priya, can you think seriously for just one minute?” I replied, shaking my head.
“Come on, what’s wrong with that? As far as I know, having s*x is normal,” she said confidently.
“Priya, this is serious. You need to know this before your brother fires me for not marketing his new clothes,” I said.
“You sound very serious. Don’t tell me you found out you’re pregnant and now you’re planning to marry the father,” she joked again.
“Priya, this is serious. Just listen to me for once,” I pleaded.
“At your service, blue-eyed queen,” she replied playfully, just like the man in the cab had said earlier. I chose to ignore that for now.
“I did not put on any lenses,” I said.
She immediately looked at me, confused.
“I woke up with my eyes turned blue,” I added before she could ask anything.
“It seems I belong to the snake kingdom, since they are capable of doing things like changing eye color,” I told her, even though I knew I wasn’t telling her the full truth. I was the future serpent queen, and I knew it.
I had been blessed by Lord Shangan.
“You mean all those stories we watch in movies are actually true?” she asked, sounding serious for the first time.
“Yes. It seems I am going to be the next queen, but I don’t understand everything yet. I just woke up with blue eyes, and according to the movies, that’s the first sign,” I said.
“This is incredible. I can’t believe you’re going to be a queen. Of course, I’ll be right by your side,” she said happily. Then she paused. “But where is the snake kingdom?” she asked.
I couldn’t tell her everything. It would only confuse her. Humans were considered our greatest enemies, the same ones who had contributed to the death of my parents and my banishment from the snake kingdom with the help of the Red Serpent.
I remembered clearly what had happened thousands of years ago when I was banished. I had only one option left, my human lover, Patel. I had no powers to fight the enemy who had taken over the kingdom, and the dragons were about to attack.
My only choice had been to return to the human world and find him. I believed I could get help, maybe even find a way to obtain the Black Stone, which had the power to defeat any enemy.
“Are you okay?” Priya’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
“Yes, I’m okay,” I replied, trying to stay composed.
“Priya, promise me you won’t tell anyone,” I added.
“Are you sure?” she asked.
“Yes. I want this to stay between us until…”
Just then, the door flew open, revealing a very angry Mr. Rollins.
“Miss Sona, where is…” he began angrily, but stopped when he saw his sister.
“Is that how you speak to a lady, Dev?” Priya challenged him.
She was the only person who could soften him.
“I came to ask your friend about the progress on the new designs,” he said, glaring at me.
“Mr. Rollins, I have already contacted the marketers, and there has been progress. There is already a 13 percent increase in sales,” I lied.
“Wow! Dev, you have such a competent worker. I wonder how it would be if you had her both at work and at home,” Priya teased.
That was Priya for you. She always tried to matchmake us, but that was the most ridiculous idea ever. Nothing could ever happen between us. He was the kind of man no woman with self-respect would want.
“Send the details to my email now. And you, Priya, I need to talk to you,” he said before walking out, with Priya following him.
I sighed.
How was I going to get that 13 percent increase?
“My goodness, what am I going to do?” I muttered as I opened my laptop.
“Damn it, we only have a 2.9 percent increase,” I said under my breath, staring at the screen.
I tapped my head lightly, hoping for a miracle.
“My queen, I am at your service.”
I froze.
I turned around slowly.
A man, about thirty years old, stood behind me, dressed in an expensive suit.
“Who are you, and how did you get into my office?” I asked, shocked.
“I am Nima, the serpent who handles matters related to technology and software,” he said, bowing slightly.
He murmured something, and in a flash, he transformed into a green snake.
“Let your will be done, Queen Serpent,” he hissed before disappearing.
At that exact moment, a notification popped up on my laptop.
“Congratulations, Rollins Dressing Line. Sales have increased by 26 percent. You are now number one in the fashion industry.”
“What!” I almost dropped the laptop in shock.
How was that even possible?
It usually took months to achieve such growth.
“The green serpent did it… this is going to be very interesting,” I whispered to myself, nodding slowly.
