Chapter 2- The Approval

The following morning, Alice woke up early to pack her little belongings. She had to select amongst her old clothes the best ones she would need in case she got a nice job. She made sure to pick up her toothbrush and favorite mug. After looking around and making sure she did not forget anything necessary as she didn't have extra money to buy new ones.
She went to the pizza shop where she was currently working in her neighborhood to tell them she would no longer be working with them by Monday.
"Hey! What's up Julia"! Alice called out to one of her colleagues at the pizza shop.
Hey girl! You don't work on weekends, is everything OK? Julia asked while cleaning the floors. Curious as to why she was in the workplace on a Sunday.
"Yeah, everything is fine! I just need to see the boss. Is he around"? Alice asked with a sweet smile.
"Yeah he is around but he is in the storage. You can call him with the office phone to let him know you are here".Julia answered hurrying up with her cleaning as she was almost late.
Hearing this Alice picked up the office phone and dialed her boss's number.
"Hello this is Alice on the line sir. I need to see you for something important". Beep! The phone call ended after her boss told her to wait for a few minutes.
Sitting down calmly she waits for her boss while thinking about how her new life in Manchester would be. If things will eventually turn worse or better. While she was lost in thought her boss walked up to her and tapped her on her head to call her attention.
"I have been calling your name for over ten seconds now you didn't hear me. Is everything okay with you Belle"? Mr Clarius asked her with a worried look. Belle, as her boss, would fondly call her ever since started working for him. He would always compliment her beauty every time he saw her saying she was the prettiest girl amongst her workers. It got to a point where her boss would forget her name was Alice.
"I will be moving to a new city very far away from here so I want to report for a resignation," Alice said looking down as she felt bad for her boss.
Mr Clarius felt so bad about the news of her leaving. "Do you want an increase? I will try my best Belle", he asked her, trying to change her mind. "To be honest with you my sales record has increased ever since you started working with me. Belle, please reconsider your decision, Alice", her boss, continued trying to convince her.
After some minutes of silence, Alice spoke up and said" I am so sorry sir, there is nothing else I can do about this. Please try to understand me. I will be leaving and thank you sir for treating me well while working with you. I will remember that in the future"
Seeing that Alice was surely leaving and nothing was stopping her. He had no option but to go bring her half payment as she had already worked half of the month for him.
"Here Alice"! He said, extending his hands with some notes of money. That's your half payment for this month and I wish you good luck in your new city Belle. I appreciate your kindness and good work output. Thank you so much.
Alice, surprised and overjoyed, hugged him immediately, a ball of tears rolling down her cheek as she said "Thank you, sir". Collecting the money from him she put it in her pocket immediately without even counting it because she was not even expecting to get any payment.
Wiping her face she fixed her clothes and left for the door. Immediately Alice was outside of the pizza shop. She hurriedly brought out the money from her pocket and counted it and it was her complete half-month payment. Heaving a big sigh of relief she starts heading home straight.
A few minutes later she arrived home and opened the door to see her family all sitting in the living room looking worried.
"Any problem"? she asked after greeting her parents and siblings. Walking over to them her mum said "I thought you already left without letting us say our goodbyes".
"No! That's outrageous! I would never do that mum. At least not to the people I care about the most". Alice said with a chuckle trying to brighten the mood and it worked.
Mum guess what? Alice asked her mum with a lit face." What Alice, you know I've been very bad at guesswork"Alice's mum replied with a curious look.
"I went to resign at my current workplace and my boss paid me for the half month I worked for him. Here is the money"! Alice said happily, giving her mother the money.
"He is a good man Alice and I am happy for you, my daughter" Alice's mum happily collected the money from her daughter. After talking for some time the family headed to make and eat breakfast as they were already late. Hurrying their breakfast Alice tidied the place up as usual and hurried upstairs to get her bags down.
When she was done with her last bag she looked around her old room making sure that she was not forgetting anything she would need as the new city where she would be living was very far. Looking around to her satisfaction she closed the door and headed down the stairs. Bringing all her bags together she hurriedly called her cab. While she was sitting on the old cushion that looked so tattered, she called her friend to remind her about her coming even though she had already called her last night.
"Hello, girl I am all ready and waiting for the cab. I hope everything is OK for you"? Alice asked, hoping her friend wouldn't have a change of mind at the last minute.
"I am already waiting for you. You reach the address I gave you. I will come pick you up. Safe ride"! Jane replied immediately, reassuring her friend who seemed to be in doubt about the whole journey.
"Ok Jane, thank you so much. I am so grateful"! Alice replied with a grateful tune.
"Come on girl! What are friends for"? Jane answered while laughing. She continued "Right girl I will be going shopping, call me later when you arrive" Jane cut the call after saying this to Alice.
After some minutes Alice became worried about her cab that didn't seem like it was coming. Just as she was about to call him to know what was wrong, a black car pulled up in front of their yard. Looking from the blinds to make sure it was him Alice heaved a sigh of relief before opening the door.
"Mum the cab is here" Alice shouted while opening the front door and her mum hurried out of the room.
