"Or just grab a superhero." She says it so nonchalantly, I almost take it seriously. I registered what she said and how silly it was, then burst into laughter.
"That would be epic if they were real, though! I'd love to meet one!" I say earnestly, but still have the smile plastered on my face. Then I realized something on the inside of my mouth. It's dipping in. Oh, yeah. My dimples. That's the thought that can possibly make me stop smiling.
And it does.
Jannat looks at me like I'm some kind of grotesque, mutilated creature because of how fast my smile faded but before she has the chance to say anything, the warning bell rings for first period. Mr. Elaam—also known as Mr. E—isn't a bad teacher. He's just. . . odd. Sure, he's new this year but still; he's weird. He looks like one of those kids in high school that never fit in and now he teaches like he's trying to take control over mankind as revenge. Another thing about him is that he doesn't bEve in A pluses. Nope, nobody gets higher than an A in here. Not even me, and I'm the person who some people would choose to cheat off of.
