Serena, a prodigy with a sharp mind and the owner of her own tattoo studio, is on the verge of turning eighteen. Years of suffering under her stepmother’s cruelty have driven her to break free, taking with her the earnings from her thriving business. No matter who her destined mate might be, Serena is determined to carve her own path. Yet, her independence has drawn the attention—and opposition—of more than one man. Her fiery spirit now thrusts her into a confrontation with the very past she’s fought so hard to escape. How much can a person endure before they finally surrender?

Chapter 30
“Ms. Rena! It’s been a while!” The hostess greeted me warmly as I stepped inside. “Too long!” I laughed back. “Come on, I’ve got a table ready for you two.” “Thanks, Ira!” “Anytime!” She waved and disappeared down the hall. I hated sitting with my back to the door, but with Kieran being the Alpha, he claimed that seat without question. I sighed and took my place across from him. “Come here often?” Kieran raised an eyebrow. “Occasionally.” He handed me a menu, but I shook my head. “Creature of habit. I know what I like.” Before Kieran could respond, a waitress I hadn’t seen before approached, placing her hand casually on his shoulder — completely ignoring me. “Brittany,” Kieran’s tone was flat, clearly unimpressed. She pulled her hand away, and he asked, “When did you start working here?” “I just turned eighteen,” she said with a bright smile. “Came to visit my grandma. They wanted me for some birthday party next Friday — for some spoiled Alpha kids. Apparently, I need to find my mate.” My eyebrow shot up. I decided to have a little fun. “Birthday party? Heard about that. Do you know who they are?” I leaned back, feigning interest. Brittany finally acknowledged me, pushing Kieran aside and sliding into the booth. “No idea. I heard there are two—twins, a boy and a girl. The girl’s supposed to have a genius IQ but quite the bitchy attitude.” “That sounds about right,” I muttered. “Bitchy attitude?” “Yeah. I heard she beat up some girls in the bathroom. They caught her flirting with her man, and when they asked her to stop, she flipped out. Total loose cannon. Though, I heard she’s ugly, so maybe it doesn’t matter. Oh, and there’s some cheating drama—one girl said she plans to cheat to win a challenge.” I raised an eyebrow, surprised. “How does someone cheat in a challenge?” “She’s got a target on her back.” I glanced at Kieran and saw his expression shift. Brittany was clueless. “Anything else juicy?” I pressed. “That’s about it. Oh! I heard she’s got a fling with the future Beta. Rumor is, he’s been stepping out on her, hooking up with other girls behind her back!” Brittany’s face lit up like this was scandalous news. Honestly, I didn’t believe the rumor, and honestly, I didn’t care. “Interesting. Where do you get this stuff?” I leaned in like I was really curious. “I can’t reveal my sources!” Brittany laughed. Just then, Ira approached nervously. “Um, Brittany?” “What do you want?” Her tone turned sharp. “Do you realize who she is?” Ira asked quietly. “Just some wannabe who stands no chance now that I’m back in town!” Brittany sneered, flashing me a fake smile. I reached out my hand with a sharp grin. “Hello, I’m Serena—the female twin and the birthday girl this Friday. I’m assuming you’re from Kieran’s pack, and I think he’ll agree when I say you should be at Alpha Theron’s office first thing tomorrow morning. They’ll want to have a little chat with you.” Brittany’s confident facade crumbled. After a long pause, she shakily reached out her hand. “I-I’m so sorry…” “Save it. I really don’t care about what you said. Not all of it is true, but I would like to place an order.” “I think I’ll take it from here,” Ira said, stepping in as Brittany slunk away with her head down. “s**t,” Kieran muttered under his breath. “I’m so sorry, Rena!” Ira looked genuinely nervous. “Don’t worry about it. She actually gave us some useful info.” “Your usual?” Ira’s voice still trembled a little. “Yes, please! Tea with lemon today.” “And you, Alpha Kieran?” “I’ll have the brisket special. Water.” Kieran tried to keep his anger in check. “I’ll bring that right out.” Ira walked off toward what I assumed was the manager, who was standing with her hands on her hips, glaring at Brittany. “You’ve got girls everywhere,” I muttered, shaking my head and crossing my arms.
