Chapter 1

502 Words
Today was one of those days where I decided to set a new goal for myself. I wanted it to be a bit of a challenge, so I had been thinking about it long and hard. Pacing the floor, I weighed the challenge’s pros and cons, as always. I still needed to be careful. I couldn’t do anything that would expose her true self.  I began to feel the familiar tingling of my skin right at the base of my spine. I knew I was getting more tense as I mentally walked through the idea. I took a deep breath to slow my increasing heart beat. As my breaths began to even, the tingle subsided.  There on the table in front of me was a packet of papers. They were the Grammercy High School registration forms. This year, I decided to attend a real high school. I looked over teh forms as the sun peaked out from behind a cloud. The rays came shining through my small window, brightly illuminating the papers. I took that as a sign from The Creator. High School was definitely going to be my challenge this year. After filling in all the blanks and signing the name of my ‘grandmother’, I was elated. I made a promise to myself that I would do atleast 5 big things between tails. I am coming close to that time again, so I was running short on time. If my calculations were right, I only had 2 years left. Attending a year of high school was, in my mind, a big achievement.  I have been alive for a very long time, but I have never formally attended classes as a student. There just seemed to be so many other opportunities throughout the years that this one didn’t seem to be in the cards until now. Again, I felt grateful.  Brimming with excitement, I couldn’t take it anymore. The tingling on my flesh at the crevice of my buttox started to vibrate. I felt the warmth getting more intense as my happiness soared. I stripped of my clothes, closed my eyes, and let the warmth run through me.  I felt all of myself contract and bones take on new shapes. I twirled around in place, happily chasing my tail. This time however, there wasn’t just one. Flowing behind me a moment later were 6 glorious tails, all fluffy and tipped in white. In just 2 more years, my seventh tail would appear, just as each once had every 50 years since I had been alive.  Bounding out the same window she I come through this morning, I took to the forest. The bright June sun reflected off of my burnt red fur. It warmed me through and helped me limber up as I ran.   All I could think about was the chance at going to school. Grammercy high wouldn’t know what hit it. My little Kitsune heart never felt so full as I raced through the forest expelling my delight like a contagious laugh.
