“How long have you had that?” Tyler asked examining my necklace. “Almost since I can remember.” I subtly took it back from him. “Did he?-” “No..” I quickly answered guarding my hand over it. “Well it’s beautiful, like you.” He rubbed my cheek. I slapped a pillow over his face straddling him. “You really have to stop with this mushy shit.” I playfully scolded him. We wrestled for a little before settling down again. “You know I could stay here forever.” I kissed all over his face as he held my waist. “Don’t let me stop you.” He moaned. My hotel was spacious and better than I expected as we laid on the large sofa in the living room. “We’ve been seeing each other for two weeks now. I’ve been telling you almost everything about me. Yet, I don’t know that much about you.” He confronted me. “For starters, how you’re able to afford a luxury condo at one of the finest hotels in Cali. What are you? A top secret spy, or some Saudi trillionaire’s daughter.” He interrogated with his hands behind his head. I thought for a second trying to think of the least dishonest answer. “Well let’s just say my parents weren’t really around majority of my life. I know that sounds crazy, but I’ve pretty much made it on my own outside of my last relationship.” I adverted my eyes at the awkwardness. “Wow..that sounds badass. I mean, look at where you’re are now. That’s quite impressive isn’t it?” He pointed around the room. I smirked rolling over next to him. “Well it’s not always fun. Especially, if you don’t have someone to enjoy it with.” I took his hand smiling at him. “Do you remember much of your mom? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.” He comforted me trying to continue to conversation. “Well, I like to think she was beautiful, strong, and smart.” I played with my necklace, “Strangely, I feel like she could sing better than anyone in the world. Though, I don’t even remember what her voice sounded like.” I didn’t know where the thought came from but I talked about her almost like I did know her at some point. “Well by the looks of you, I’m sure that’s all true.” He ran his fingers through my hair. “You’re not off the hook either. You have yet to tell me what it is you do at this ‘job’ of yours. Mr. Business man.” I poked him. Before he could respond, his phone buzzed causing him to jump up grabbing his pants. He quickly answered it walking away so I couldn’t hear. “Must be important.” I looked suspiciously as he slightly covered the phone. He eventually ended the called and picked me up and twirling us around; though we were still naked. “I assume that was good news.” I laughed as I held on for dear life. “You have no idea.” He cheered putting me down. He then began getting dressed, “So, you’re not gonna tell me?” I asked as he put on his shoes. “Well it’s not completely set in stone, so I don’t want to jinx myself by talking about it too much. Trust me.” He grabbed my shoulders intensely. “Okay.” I nervously laughed as he handed me my clothes. “But we are going to have a pre-celebratory dinner because of it.” He kissed my forehead.
We got on the elevator to the parking garage holding hands and the happiness he was feeling overwhelmed me. It felt amazing to be in a seemingly normal relationship with someone, who too, saw me as normal. Though, I came to the conclusion that you can never make an omelette without cracking a few eggs. As we got off the lift, a man came out of nowhere hitting Tyler square in the jaw with a weapon. He fell back and I screamed running to his aid. The guy then grabbed me by the neck slamming me against the metal wall. “Give me the cash!” He shouted pointing a gun to my stomach. I fumbled with my bag as he grew impatient pulling me to the ground. He straddled me, and I began fighting back not caring if he shot me. I scratched and clawed him in the neck, chest, and face hoping someone would come and save us. I looked down to see my arm transforming and I willingly let it happened. He noticed and quickly backed away pointing the gun. I limply got up holding my side and the mass grew up my shoulder. “What the f**k?!” He shouted c*****g his gun. He then started twitching and began groaning as pain grew inside him internally. He hunched over grabbing at his leg desperately. His arm then began moving on its own as he pointed the gun to the same leg. “Make it stop!” The gun went off and he shot himself; soon falling unconscious. I fell to the ground from exhaustion coughing up a little blood. I looked around and the garage was completely empty. We were alone so I thought quickly. I crawled to Tyler who was on the ground still writhing in pain from the gun punch. “It’s okay baby.” I said pulling him into my lap. I was holding his head still so he couldn’t hurt himself further. “It’s okay..” I kept repeating. I looked over to the guy who was knocked out. I didn’t want to kill him but knew it was best to just leave. We eventually made it to our feet limping away from the scene.
We made it into his house, and he fell onto his couch coughing from the pain. “We have to call the police.” He explained reaching for his phone. “No!” I stopped him. “You need to rest. You’re in no position to talk to the police.” I explained looking at his poor condition. “I’m sorry this happened Lily. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you.” He declared and I simply shushed him. I placed my hands back on him and he unknowingly laid there as I began healing him. I could tell he truly felt like failure because he couldn’t stop the guy from attacking us. I sat next to him placing my hand on his head. He immediately grew calm sinking into my embrace.
I managed to remove his memory from the attack replacing it with one of him getting hurt from a nasty fall. I felt sick doing it to him but I didn’t want to have our relationship start out with such a bad experience. Afterwards, I got a few towels cleaning us both up. He eventually woke from a brief nap having actually forgotten about what happened. “Remind me to watch my step next time.” He yawned cuddling up next to me. “Noted.” I fake laughed rubbing his still red face.
Time had past and there was a knock on the door causing me to slightly panicked. He quickly went to go answer it and I automatically prepared for the worst given what had just happened. He checked the peep hole then opened the door swiftly. “James!” He smiled brightly as he greeted a friend, I assumed. James was surprisingly tall with long beach blonde hair. He glanced at me briefly then whispered something to Tyler. He look impressed as he moved to greet me. “Nice to finally meet you Lily. I’ve heard many great things about you.” He was welcoming, “But just so you know, I’m Tyler’s #1 person. So don’t try and take that spot.” We playfully threatened prompting Tyler to play fight him. “You’re only #1 at getting your ass kicked.” They wrestled and I grew slightly uncomfortable at this new interaction. “I-I should go.” I grabbed my things. “What? You can’t stay for a while? James was just stopping by, right James?” He jabbed him in the arm. “Oh yeah, I just wanted to say what’s up to my boy before his ‘big day’.” He jabbed him back. “Big day?” I sat my stuff back down. There was a brief silence and James walked into the kitchen per Tyler’s unspoken request. He came next to me rubbing his neck. “I may, potentially, have a chance to become CEO of the company I work for. I have an interview in a couple of days and if I get it, let’s just say, my house will be a lot bigger in a couple of months.” He nervously but happily explained. “What? That’s amazing why didn’t you tell me?” I hugged him at the good news. “Well, I just didn’t want you judging me based off of what I could be and not what I currently am. Which is a leash boy for some half-croaked billionaire that could go any day now. But subsequently, that’s why I’m up for the position. I’m his right hand and know the company better than anyone else.” He was excited and I knew this was a huge thing for him. “Well, you have my vote.” I kissed him on the cheek. James came back with a glass, immediately killing the mood with his humor, “You know, if you get this position, you’ll be up there with all of the elites. Learning all of their top secrets. Who knows they might even let you into the Illuminati.” Me and Tyler both cringed. “Let’s just focus on passing the interview first. Seriously, I don’t want to psyche myself out thinking too far ahead.” He got up out of frustration. He walked up the stairs still in overthinking about the interview. I went to follow him but before I could James grabbed my arm, “Hey, I heard there was a mugging not too long ago at some fancy hotel. Guy ended up shooting himself of all things. People said they saw a guy and a girl limping from the scene. Do you know anything about that?” His tone grew serious. I was immediately on guard deflecting from his question. “What are a detective or something?” I chuckled. He remained serious which unnerved me even more. “Nah, just a concerned friend is all.” He let me go with a half assed smile.
“So, CEO?” I seductively crawled on top of him. “Don’t do that.” He flipped me over on to the bed. “Don’t start treating me like I’m something I’m not.” He buried his face in my neck. “I thought it was always good to see yourself doing what you love. Plus, is there really any competition?” I caressed his head. He shook his head without saying anything, “Then I’m sure you have nothing to worry about.” I turned him over getting back on top. “You’re talking as of you already know.” He questioned wondering if I knew his future. I then thought to myself for a moment. “Just promise me you don’t get too wrapped up in your job and forget about me.” I kissed him. “You sure make it hard to forget.” He kissed back. I took the opportunity to focus my powers looking deeper into him. I’ve seen future events play out before but never tried to see them on purpose. After some concentration, something began manifesting in my mind.
‘I was sitting at a fancy dinner table with a glass of wine. I looked down to see I was wearing a dress that was way out of my price range. I didn’t know where I was or when this was happening. I still had my trusted necklace on and touched it for comfort. I looked up to see Tyler smiling behind a lit table candle. He took my hand, kissing it, “I really don’t think I could have done this without you.” He nodded then slid a velour box in front of me. I was shocked at the surprise covering my mouth. I nervously took it in my hand using my other to open it. In it sat a beautiful diamond ring. I was at a loss for words looking up to him. “Don’t worry, it’s not a wedding ring. But, if one day you wish it was, I’ll buy you a bigger one.” He leaned in kissing my cheek.’
I came back to, not realizing we were making out for a while, “If you don’t slow down I’ll have to tell James to leave.” He spoke between our kisses motioning to the door. I stopped myself after processing what I’d just saw. “Seriously I’ll text him right now.” He began unbuttoning his shirt. I then sat up removing my top as well, “I’m sure he’ll leave once he hears us.” I giggled leaned back down.
