The refuge expanded in the autumn.
Three new residents, a second volunteer healer trained by Harlan, a small addition to the building that gave us a proper teaching room. Kellan had proven, against everyone's expectations including possibly his own, to be an excellent building manager — he understood structures with the particular attention of someone who had been trained to understand how things break.
He was making himself useful. Slowly, carefully, in the way that genuine change happens rather than performed change.
