The girl who carried the moon
🌙 THE GIRL WHO CARRIED THE MOON Chapter One: The Strange Light Hajar Asaju had always believed that the moon was watching her. It sounds strange, even to Hajar. Every night, when she sat beside her bedroom window, the moon seemed brighter than it was for everyone else. Sometimes it appeared perfectly round. Other nights, it looked like a silver crescent floating in a sea of stars. But on one particular night, something changed. Hajar was sitting at her desk, struggling to finish her schoolwork, when a strange blue light flashed across her room. She froze. “What was that?” She slowly turned toward the window. The moonlight had changed. Instead of shining white, the moon was glowing deep blue. Then she heard something. Hajar… Her pencil fell from her hand. “Who said that?” Silence. She stood up and walked toward the window. Hajar… come outside. Her heart began beating faster. She knew she should ignore it. But curiosity won. Hajar quietly opened her window and looked outside. At the end of the street stood an enormous tree that had never been there before. Its leaves shimmered like tiny stars. And underneath it was a mysterious silver door. Hajar stared. “That wasn’t there yesterday.” She grabbed her hoodie and quietly left her room. When she reached the tree, the silver door opened by itself. Behind it was not another room. It was a completely different world. The sky was purple. Floating islands drifted between enormous clouds. Rivers of glowing blue water flowed through the air. And thousands of tiny lights moved like fireflies. Hajar stepped backward. “This has to be a dream.” “No.” A voice came from behind her. Hajar turned. A boy about her age stood beneath the glowing tree. He wore a dark blue jacket with a strange silver symbol on the sleeve. “My name is Shoguro,” he said. “And I’ve been looking for you.” Hajar frowned. “Why?” Shoguro looked toward the sky. “Because the moon has chosen you.” Before Hajar could answer, the entire sky suddenly turned black. The floating islands stopped moving. The glowing river disappeared. Then a gigantic shadow appeared above them. Shoguro’s expression changed. “They found us.” “Who?” He looked directly at Hajar. “The people who destroyed the Moon Kingdom.” A loud crack echoed across the sky. The silver door behind Hajar slammed shut. And somewhere in the darkness, a voice whispered: “Finally… the Moon Keeper has returned.” Hajar’s eyes widened. “Moon Keeper?” Shoguro grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the glowing forest. “Run!” Behind them, the darkness began to move. And for the first time in her life, Hajar realized something terrifying: The moon hadn’t been watching her. It had been waiting for her.
