Chapter 1: Amapola POV
Looking for my camera with my fear, and anger I make some of my makeup fall from the wardrobe while internally cursing. I've had enough of hearing my mother and father argue about who didn't show up to exchange the orders that mom had been cultivating for months. I'm not really sure why they stayed married, but I can't handle any more of their continual battles for anything they go through, and I mean anything. Finding my camera in the old backpack behind my door, I placed it in my black colored backpack and remodeled the last items from my back pockets, I take my pocket knife place it on my bras, the mother on my arm jacket. Placing my headphones around my neck like a necklace, taking the hair ties I placed them on my wrists, as I’m ensuring that I had everything I needed to descend from the fifth floor of this apartment building to the bottom I look at the mirror in front of me. Feeling good with my attire, I put on my bienie, my long light brown with red colors of hair cascaded over my chest, my black sweater with two shirts underneath, and my black gloves, which allowed my fingers to be seen, revealing my black painted nails were keeping me warm from the cold I would soon have to endure. I put my sunglasses on to keep people from seeing my brown eyes, and identifying who I am to my parents. We only arrived here a week ago, and my father has already been arrested for drunk driving. I have not enrolled in school since my mother wants me to work under her commands to do what they do for a living, which is illegal. I'm so sick and weary of this life that I'm going to run away from it, nobody wants anything to do with drug junkies that are my parents, and I don’t blame them but I need to be free from them, taking the last of my belongings. I hear my parents fighting again in the living room just outside of my small room that could pass for a janitors room, letting out a breath I place the bag on my back and open the window. Looking down at the bottom, I noticed that the snow had just begun to fall; it wasn't enough for me to leap on and land safely, so I looked up to discover that the steps were blocked. This just made me curse even longer in my head, why does it always have to be so much harder for me? Putting on my boots with socks, I made sure my jean winter jacket was on, and I begin to attempt to scale down the metal of the structure; finally reaching the bottom, I drop to enter the trash can, I’m on top of trash bags, praying I don’t get something to stink I get out of here as fast as I could. Once on my two feet, and happy to not smell like trash I notice the officers beginning to park up front, and all I could think was that my parents had pushed a neighbor to call them, seeing them I had let out a breath of relief, I could see the frigid air leaving me. Knowing they could lead me to the nearest shelter, I decided to question one of the cops up front while walking towards one of the cars I asked. "Excuse me, could you please tell me where the nearest shelter is?" The man was nice enough to point me in the appropriate direction; but, once I began walking towards the shelter, I came across an alleyway that was too dark for me to see what it held at the end; it was already late at night, making my walk even more difficult. While walking I heard somebody behind me. I had no idea who it was, but under my arm was my pocket knife. Taking it out, I clutched it hard in my palm. Glancing behind me, I noticed a lovely woman with blond hair and white eyes; she was extremely different under the moonlight, unlike the normal women I'd seen, she took my breath away. With a lovely grin, she sighed and spoke to me in the most angelic voice I'd ever heard. "Thank you for stopping for me; I noticed you were heading to the shelter; may I instead invite you to my home? There is a terrible winter storm approaching." Hearing her, I nodded out of nowhere; I don't follow strangers, and I don't even pay them attention, but with this woman, I feel like I can't say no; if I do, I'll fall into a deep sadness that would ruin me. She approached me and we both walked to the same dark alleyway; she passed me to turn in that direction, and my thoughts screamed at me not to enter this alleyway; I was scared of going in since I couldn't see what was ahead of me. Stepping in, this woman's hair began to shine, it began to grow longer than it was, her long strands turning into a rainbow of purple that sparkled as she began to hum a song I didn't know. Focusing solely on her, my eyes eventually shifted to find big hazel colored eyes of a wolf staring at me beside her. Following the wolf I see there was many more of them that had come, seeing this jolted me out of the stupor I was in, and I stepped a little behind only to be held by a man's hands. Before I could scream, the woman finally touched me, and I closed my eyes, falling into a deep sleep. ——— Opening my eyes, my head didn’t hurt, nothing hurt, I just felt rejuvenated, looking up I seem to be in a Victorian chamber of some sorts, the ceiling with its hand painted seals of wolves, flowers, birds, and the sky made me feel out of place with my hand me downs for clothes. Moving my head, I notice a double window leading hopefully to a balcony. As I'm ready to get up, I hear a doorknob and see a woman wearing a huge blue and purple Victorian dress and a large wig with a windmill in it walk from the front of the bed I was laying on.
