Chapter 1
Alondra sat at her kitchen table, her laptop open in front of her. She had been job hunting for months, but the only responses she received were rejection emails. She felt discouraged and frustrated, but she refused to give up.
She scrolled through job listings on her computer, feeling a sense of dread wash over her. She knew that the competition was fierce, and she didn't have the same qualifications as some of the other applicants.
She clicked on a job listing for a position she was particularly interested in. She read through the requirements and realized that she didn't quite meet all of them. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should even apply.
"Alondra, you need to get a job. Your mother needs you!" She reminded to herself.
And that she had to take risks and put herself out there if she wanted to succeed.
She submitted her application, feeling a mix of hopefulness and apprehension. A few days later, she received an email thanking her for her interest but informing her that they had chosen another candidate for the position.
"Oh my gosh, am I this so unlucky?"
Alondra felt a pang of disappointment as she read the email. She had been so hopeful that this would be the job she had been waiting for. She closed her laptop and slumped back in her chair, feeling defeated.
"Is this beautiful, hot and smart lady you're wasting? Ha!"
Over the next few weeks, Alondra applied to dozens of jobs, but she received more rejections than offers. She started to doubt herself and wonder if she would ever find a job that was right for her.
One evening, as Alondra was scrolling through job listings, she came across a position that seemed too good to be true. It was for a company that specialized in her field of expertise, and it offered a salary that was significantly higher than anything she had seen before.
"Oh d*mn I need to get this job. I could pay my mother's hospital bills and can get a new car, my brother tuition and it can pay also my rent for half years."
She stopped her day dreaming...
Alondra hesitated for a moment, wondering if this was some kind of scam. But then she remembered how much she needed this job and how much it would mean to her career.
"Well, let's take the risk Alondra. We don't have to lose"
She submitted her application with confidence, hoping against hope that this time would be different.
A few days later, Alondra received an email inviting her to an interview. She couldn't believe it - after months of rejections, someone finally wanted to talk to her!
She texted her brother informing that she finally invited to an interview.
Finally! I can go to school! Her brother replied.
She gets emotional and determined to get the job for her mother and for her brother.
She spent the next few days preparing for the interview, researching the company and practicing her answers to common interview questions. She wanted to make sure she made a good impression and stood out from the other candidates.
The day came and she can't decide what to wear. It is a high-class company and she's been spending for hour just to decide what to wear.
Good thing she wake up 4 hours earlier that the time for interview.
Alondra paced back and forth in front of her closet, her heart racing with nerves. She had an important job interview in just a few hours, and she still couldn't decide what to wear.
She pulled out a sleek black pencil skirt and a crisp white blouse, but then hesitated.
"Was this too conservative? Would they think I was too old-fashioned?"
She tried on a bright red dress next, but it made her feel too bold and daring. She didn't want to come across as too flirtatious or distracting.
Alondra sighed and slumped against the wall, feeling defeated.
"Alondra get yourself together!"
She had always struggled with dressing for success, never quite sure how to strike the right balance between professionalism and style.
"I think I should go with the black skirt and white blouse," she said confidently. "It's classic and timeless, and it shows that I take their job seriously."
Alondra nodded convincingly. She changed back into the outfit and smoothed out any wrinkles, feeling more confident as she headed out the door.
Alondra's heart skipped a beat as she stepped into the luxurious lobby of the high-rise building that housed the company she'd been invited to interview with. The marble floors shone under the bright lights, and the plush sofas and chairs in the waiting area exuded a sense of opulence that left her feeling both awed and intimidated.
As she made her way to the reception desk, she couldn't help but notice the sleek glass elevators that whisked people up and down the building at lightning speed. She felt a pang of envy as she imagined what it would be like to work in such a lavish environment.
The receptionist, a polished woman with a warm smile, greeted Alondra warmly and led her to a conference room where she was to meet with the company's CEO. As Alondra took her seat at the long mahogany table, she couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the people who ran such a successful and wealthy organization.
Alondra's heart skipped a beat as she walked into the conference room for her job interview.
Her eyes widen and her knees weaken when she recognized the man sitting behind the desk immediately - it was her ex-boyfriend, Gavin, who also happened to be the CEO of the company.
Alondra tried to keep her cool as she shook his cold hand and took a seat across from him. She knew that this interview was crucial for her career, and she couldn't afford to let her emotions get in the way.
"Good morning. It's an honor to be interviewed here." She nearly cried because for f*ck sake her voice cracked!
Gavin asked her a series of questions, and Alondra answered confidently, trying to ignore the fact that he was staring intently at her. She could feel his gaze on her, and it made her nervous, but she pushed those feelings aside and focused on the task at hand.
As the interview came to a close, Gavin stood up and walked around the table to shake Alondra's hand once again. "Thank you for coming in today," he said with a smile. "We'll be in touch."
Alondra left the building feeling both relieved and conflicted. She was grateful for the opportunity, but she couldn't help wondering what Gavin thought of her during the interview. Had he noticed how nervous she seemed plus her trembling hands when they handshake? Did he still have feelings for her?
As she walked down the street, Alondra's mind was racing with questions. She knew that she needed to put aside any lingering feelings for Gavin and focus on her career, but it wasn't going to be easy. She had spent months trying to move on from their relationship, and now it seemed like he was back in her life in a big way.
Alondra took a deep breath and reminded herself that this was about business, not emotions. She couldn't let her personal life interfere with her professional goals, no matter how difficult it might be. With that in mind, Alondra resolved to stay focused and determined, no matter what challenges lay ahead..
This, is for your family Alondra, get yourself together!
She decided to go to her mother to inform her and to surprise her.
Alondra walked into her mother's hospital room, her heart heavy with worry. Her mother had been sick for years, and Alondra had been doing her best to juggle her job search with taking care of her.
As she approached her mother's bedside, Alondra noticed the look of concern etched on her face. "How are you feeling today, Mom?" she asked gently.
Her mother smiled weakly. "I'm doing okay, I suppose," she said. "How about you? Have you found a job yet?"
Alondra hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to break the news. She had just interviewed to a job offer from a high-paying company, but she didn't want to overwhelm her mother with excitement when she was already dealing with so much stress.
Finally, Alondra took a deep breath.
"I just got an interview awhile ago and it went well mom."
Her mother's eyes widened in surprise as Alondra explained the details of the job offer, and she could see the pride and relief in her mother's face.
"That's wonderful, Alondra!" her mother exclaimed. "I'm so proud of you."
Alondra felt a lump form in her throat as she realized how much this meant to her mother. She had always been close to her, and she knew that this job would not only provide financial stability but also give her the opportunity to take care of her mother in a way that she couldn't before.
As Alondra left the hospital that day, she felt a renewed sense of purpose and determination. She knew that this job would be a challenge knowing that if she will accepted she'll be the secretary of her ex, but she was ready to face it head-on, knowing that it would make a difference in both her career and her personal life. And as she walked down the street, Alondra couldn't help but feel grateful for the support and encouragement of those around her - especially her mother, who had always believed in her no matter what.
