Chapter 2

We all live in Enchantia. An enchanted forest in Europe where magical and supernatural creatures live. Pixies, werewolves, gnomes, dryads, and trolls. The vampires don't live here because they chose to drink blood from the humans, and also the werewolves drove them away. Humans don't know about this place the forest is enchanted so they don't see this place. It's quite interesting and no one wants humans here. I heard they're worse than vampires that's why we didn't care when we chased them away. "Bro!" I stop and a smile is on my face, I turn around and my two best friends start singing happy birthday, embarrassing me like they always do, but in a good kind of way. Zeke is thinner than any werewolf is supposed to be. He's blond, has blue eyes and he loves comic books. Even though we think humans suck we still have some things they created because people here are too lazy to create something new. The only new thing most of us have created is a bridge for people to go to the other side of the forest. The adults go to town to get groceries except Dora isn't an adult, she's eighteen like me and she takes care of her grandmother. She's the reason why we have these comic books, video games, and movies. Human's depiction of werewolves is so stupid. I hate the vampire diaries because they made vampires stronger than werewolves and that's not the reality. We werewolves are stronger. Cal on the other hand is buff only because his brothers forced him to be. Even though he's built people still treat him like a loser, and by people I mean Jeff, stupid dumbass Jeff. "So, you excited?" Cal asks, he wraps his big arms around me. "I'm more nervous than excited," I say. "Oh come on there's nothing to be nervous about," Zeke says, we're walking together as people are busy with their work. They're excited about this and I'm not. "Your dad's only gonna reach into your mind and boom! You're the alpha." I feel like it takes more than just him reaching my mind but I don't say anything. People are wishing me a happy birthday and I answer them all with a nod. Why are people excited? It's not like I'm going to be in a cheesy movie where a werewolf falls in love with a human who's in love with a vampire and wants nothing to do with him. Humans like weird things. People are decorating the trees with beautiful lights, and they're setting up a bonfire. I refused to say all these things aren't necessary because I'll receive a lecture from my friends about how being an alpha should be a celebration, I honestly don't get it. "Hey, Dora!" Zeke yells she turns to us with a smile and walks toward us. I feel bad for her. Her parents died in a car accident and now she lives with her grandmother, her grandmother isn't too strong so now she's the one taking care of her. She walks toward us with comic books in her hands. She has short brown hair, black eyes, and nice curves. I didn't notice her curves until Zeke made mention of it. I think he has a crush on her and it's kind of cute. But I don't think Dora will ever like him back, she's strictly his comic book dealer and nothing more. "Hey, guys. Happy birthday Michael." "Thanks," I say and she turns to talk to Zeke, I think he's flirting, of course, he is. "You got the stuff." He says in a very cool voice. A voice I hear from him every time he talks to her. "What will you do without me?" She says and he shrugs. "I'll survive." "You wish." Cal and I exchange suspicious looks. Is it just me or is she flirting with him as well? She gives her the stack of comic books and taps him on the shoulder. "You need me." He says. Then she turns to me. "Can't wait for tonight Michael." She leaves. I can. "Bro. Admit it you like her." Cal says putting his hand around his shoulder Zeke shrugs him off. "I don't!" "Yeah, you do." "Michael back me up here." I don't want to say anything, so I improvise. "Last person to go to the river is Jacob Black." I begin to run and I hear Zeke and Cal running as well. There's this river where we go to hang out. We don't want to jump in, sometimes we go for a swim other times we hang out around there to be quiet and to just listen to the flow of the river. We were sixteen when we shape-shifted into wolves on the night of the full moon. It was a weird, messy, and painful experience. There was shouting, screaming, and more shouting. The pian eventually leaves when we're in full wolf form. Sixteen is the right age for a werewolf to be able to transform on the full moon. We werewolves have super strength, we can run fast and can hear and smell things from afar. It's pretty awesome. I remember the only person that didn't turn was Iris Johnson, no one knows why she doesn't have a wolf, there's no simple explanation for it. But she has been treated as an outcast ever since. I barely see her around. I can't imagine not having a wolf, it would be the worst thing that could ever happen to me. I don't tell the boys about my dream because there's no point. I don't know what that dream means but I hope it doesn't mean anything and it's all but a nightmare. I and the boys are by the riverside saying nothing and just chilling out. That's until we hear Jeff's voice. I open my eyes and I look around. I see him further down with his friends, they're yelling at someone, this person has beautiful red hair and it's long, that's a girl, not just any girl. That's Iris Johnson. "Hey, guys!" I say to them. "We know Michael, Jeff's nearby it's best to just mind our business," Zeke says he's on the ground and his eyes are closed. Cal's eyes are wide open and he sees what I'm seeing. "Dude seriously you need to look, it's Iris Johnson," Cal says and Zeke opens his eyes immediately and he stands up straight. He groans and his eyes flash a golden brown. That's what happens when a werewolf is pissed off or wants to show dominance. An alpha's eyes are red. That's what they're going to turn to once I become an alpha. "So what? We can't do anything about it. Jeff is..." He stays quiet and then looks at the scene where they're yelling profanities at her. "Jeff." He completes. I look back at her and she looks defenseless, she's telling them to leave her alone but they won't listen. My wolf is growling and it's ready for battle. This is an opportunity to show that I'm a true alpha, enough of this bullying. Just because she doesn't have a wolf doesn't mean she isn't one of us. "I'm going to help me," I say getting up Zeke and Cal try to stop me but I don't listen I'm headed toward them, I'm doing this I'm going to face that dirtbag. What's his problem anyway? Can't he pick on someone his size? "Hey!" I say but not louder because they're still yelling at Iris, poor girl, this is so wrong. Okay, Michael, you can do this. I tell myself then this time I use all my might and I yell. "Hey!" I shout and they all turn to look at me. Including Iris. Jeff smiles immediately when he sees me. "Michael, my man." He stretches his hand for a handshake but I don't take it. He sees that I don't want to shake him and he nods. "Hey man. We were just having fun." "By bullying her?" "Oh come on." He wraps his arm around her and she struggles to leave his grip it gets me even angrier. "We're just playing around." "Leave her alone," I say again this time with more authority. "Come on man you can't be ser—" "I said." I walk closer to him and my eyes glow. "Leave her alone." He looks a bit frightened, is it because I used my inside wolf voice? Or because I'm going to be alpha soon. He smiles and lets go of her. "Whatever you say, your highness." He says then he and his goons walk away. Leaving me alone with Iris. I look at her and she looks scared. I don't want her to think I'm like them. "Are you okay?" I ask and she nods. "Yeah, yeah I'm good." She looks away from the ground and then at me. I've never noticed how beautiful she is. Her hair is red, her he's are ocean blue, I feel like kissing her pink lips. But why would I feel that way unless? Oh no, she's my mate. "Thank you." She says and I'm too stunned to speak. "You're. . . You're welcome." I say I dot say anything to her so she leaves. I don't even try to stop her. How is this possible? I thought my mate has to have a wolf? She doesn't so how come? Cal and Derek run toward me and they're praising me for what I did. They can't believe it. I can't believe it either, I stood up to Jeffery Hastings the bullies of all bullies. In all the hype I'd forgotten what had just happened with me and Iris. Oh no, I'm in huge trouble. Once a wolf chooses its mate there's nothing you can do about it. Your wolf will make it obvious that the next person in the room is your mate and everyone will know. But then again I have nothing to worry about, Iris is an outcast I don't think come to the ceremony tonight. But then I stand corrected because I spot her behind a crowd staring at me as I walk toward my father so he can give me the power of being alpha. Everyone's here to watch, I feel my legs trembling. Oh, come on! I thought once I confront Jeff I'd be more courageous. I spot Jeff and he's scowling at me. I look at my mom and she's happy for me. I don't understand why is Iris here tonight of all nights I thought the pack doesn't want her around them, so why is she here? Does she also sense that my wolf has chosen her to be my mate? Oh God, I'm gonna make my dad angry right now. I kneel in front of my dad and he raises his hand for the music to stop. They stop drumming immediately. "Today we're gathered here to make my son the alpha of the young blue rose pack." "Step aside, pack outcast." I hear someone say then I turn to see Iris being pushed by a guy, I can hear my wolf growl. I'm looking straight at her and her gaze leaves this man and she has turned to meet my eyes. We're both staring at each other. I want to know her so badly. I'm so deep in thought that I don't notice when my dad places his arms on my cheeks he makes sure I'm facing him. The process has begun. His eyes go red and he's staring at me, I can feel myself getting stronger than before my wolf can feel it too and my wolf wants to leave here and meet up with Iris. Oh no this isn't gonna end well. My dad's eyes go back to normal and he's smiling at me. "Michael Sherman is now the alpha of the young blue rose pack!" He declares and everyone starts cheering including her, this is it this is where I f**k up, this is where my wolf f***s up. My dad puts his hand on my shoulder and says. "Who's your mate my son?" All my life I've been the shy timid guy who's no one but the Alpha's son. I was always scared about what people thought, not anymore. I'm tired of this leash around my neck, it's time to stand up from myself. Like I said earlier, Iris may not have a wolf but she's still one of us. I walk away from my father and I confidently walk toward her, some of the girls my age are smiling at me like they're expecting me to choose them. Their smile disappears once I pass them. I stop in front of Iris and I take her hand. She looks shocked, everyone's shocked they're all murmuring and whispering. From the looks of things, I'm guessing she didn't know she was my mate, but now she does, now everyone does.
