Chapter 4

Sage's P.O.V~ 2 Years In The Past

    Ever since I was a little boy my father has been grooming me to take his place. He would train me, take me everywhere with him, and even got me a tutor when I was younger. I'm now eighteen and about to take over. My father, Lucifer, has been ruling over the underworld for centuries now. He has decided to finally take his retirement and pass on the crown to me. 

    I have always been popular in school not just because of who my father is, but also because of how athletic and high my grades are. I strut around the school like I own it, because technically I do. Well, once my father passes down the crown of course. No teacher dares look down upon me. Not even the principal. 

    Today was a bit different though. The eyes weren’t on me this morning like most of my days were. Everyone's eyes were on some girl. And I will say, she was one fine chick. The dress she was wearing clung to her body and showed off all of her curves. I had never noticed her before now. But damn! I could hit that. Most people think I'm this playboy, but in reality, I have only had a few make-out sessions and they were when I was dared to. She wanted to of course. Who wouldn’t want to make out with me? A lot of people think that I f**k any girl I can and that's not true. My mother will slap me if I had ever f****d with a girl's feelings. She wanted me to live a life with a great reputation, which I am. 

     She was quick to get to her class though. And wherever she moves her beautiful legs,  her skirt would fly up just enough to see a small bit of her ass. She was in and out of that hallway as fast as she could move. 

    “Hey Liam, I need a favor.” I would wave over one of my closest friends. Yeah, he was a wolf but he was the only guy I could trust who didn’t use me for my dad's fame and money.

    “What do you need, Sage. Like seriously, do you only need me as a favorite boy?”

    “You know I only ask if it's important. I need you to figure out who that girl is and all of her classes and her background. I need it before lunch. Please be quick with it.”

    Liam would just smile and walk away. I knew I could rely on him to get the information I need on time and it will be the full truth. 

    My period before lunch is always P.E., I chose it to be that because I always have time to shower and I am always hungry after it, so it works out for me. I decided today to just have it easy so I had time to read the info on the girl. Liam got me the papers right before this period. I knew he could do it. And I'm guessing that he has already looked it over so he knows who she is too. I start looking at the papers Liam got and man does she have a clean record. Her parents are a whole nother subject. 

    Her name is Jewel VanHause. Her parents are Luna and Dominique VanHause. She has never had a boyfriend or girlfriend. She even hasn’t had her first kiss. She's sixteen and she hasn’t kissed anyone yet! Like damn, I think I had mine at fourteen or something like that. She always wears clothes that hide her body while she is at school. She acts like she hates being outside but in truth, she loves being out in the world. She walks to school every day but tends to take different routes almost every other day. Her breed is a vampire. Looks like she comes from a long line of very powerful vampires. Also, today is her birthday. That explains why she is wearing a dress. 

    Her parents are a different story though. Her father is a charmer. That is his power. And her mother is telepathic. Dominique and Luna’s work is hidden though. No one besides the upper ups knows their job. I'm going to have to ask my dad sometime soon if he knows their job. Not many people have their jobs hidden so my father must know who they are. 

    Now that I know who she is, I must speak to her at lunch. It says that she sits alone and only ever has water. So I plan on taking over her table to talk to her. I will tell Liam and the guys that we are moving tables today. They won't mind. Now for a shower and then off to the Lunchroom. 

    The guys and I sit at her table and I watch her walk to the lunchroom. All of the people in here are staring at her and she is very tense. Yet her movement is flowing but on edge at the same time. So, I have to watch for her next move. She buys her water like normal and as she starts to head our way when she notices us. I love the confusion on her face. She's trying to understand why we are here. As soon as she is almost to the table she turns and walks out of the room. That's weird, most girls just speed up and question why we are here. I get up and go after her. She must have noticed that I was following her because she skipped her locker and went to her next class. I'm just going to talk to her after school. She should be free then. 

    I continue on the day and when the final bell rings I stand at her locker but she never stops, I don't even see her in the halls. Maybe she left early? I will just talk to her tomorrow. 

    I drive myself and Liam home, dropping him off at his house. As soon as I pull into the driveway one of the maids tells me that I am being called by my dad. I got up to his office and knocked on the door, showing that I was here. 

    “Come in Sage, you know you don't have to knock.” My father’s voice echoes in the room as I walk in.

    “Yes father I know but it's just proper manners. Hell, you could have been screwing mom and I could’ve walked in on that. And I for sure do not want to see that,” I would laugh and sit in front of my father. 

    “Don't you think I’ve already thought of that. How do you think you were conceived? But that's off-topic. I have a job I need you to do. It will prove to me that you are ready to take my place.” 

    “What is it, father?” My mind started thinking of all of the things that he could want me to do. 

    “I want you to kill a set of my top people. I'm afraid that their daughter is getting too old and may figure out what they do for us. Their location will be at this place in the forest today around five” 

    My father would hand me a paper that had directions to the place I must go. I just nod and get up. I don't want to kill them but I have to protect my family and our reputation, they could ruin it. 

    I go and change real fast and get into my car, heading out to the spot. I park about a mile away and start walking towards the area. The two of them are just sitting on a blanket in front of a cabin. It's quite nice and updated. 

    I walk out of the trees and they both notice who I am. Of course, they do.

    “What are you doing here?” The man asks as he tightens his grip on the lady.

    “Father said it was time to go and I must get rid of you two.”

    Their eyes widen in fear and a shot of guilt hits me. They have a daughter, it said that in their records. She must be on her own because I can't see her. I didn't ask father their name, it would just make it worse. I know that they are vampires because that's all father has as workers.

    I use a bit of my magic and get right in front of the man. His eyes widen as I slam my arm through his heart. I hit it dead on. Blood spurts from his mouth hitting my cheek. His eyes slowly drain from life as he dies right before my eyes. I pull my arm out and look at the female. She looks worried and terrified. I just roll my eyes and slam my arm into her chest. I was a bit off so I only damaged her heart. But before I could do it again a friend of ours grabbed me. He tells me that it is time to leave and to let her slowly die. Yes, that was cruel but it doesn’t matter no more. I just wanted to getaway. I just get up and leave with him. 

    As soon as I get to the car I pull off my shirt throwing it into the car. That was a lot bloodier than what I wanted but it was done. I just drive home in silence trying to forget about what had just happened. 

    I pull up and I walk into my father's office. “Father, the deed is done. Now I have a question”

    “What is it, my son?”

    “Who are the VanHause’s? Do they work for you or something?”

    “Ah yes, they were just some people whom I trusted. You mustn't worry about them now. Why do you ask?”

    “Just some girl I was curious about. Her name is Jewel. She had the last name of VanHause. Her parents' job wasn’t able to be found so I guessed it was probably someone who worked for you. Thank you for telling me, father. I'm going to go shower and eat then prolly head to bed. Goodnight father.”

    “Goodnight Sage.”

    I walk out, shower, and eat. I lay in bed questioning why my father said not to worry about them. I mustn't worry because it will just keep me up. I decide to roll over and fall asleep after some more time thinking of that girl. 

    The next few days I wait at Jewel’s locker. She doesn’t ever show. I decide to ask the office and they say she has been absent and her house is empty. No one has seen her or her parents since her birthday. That is very weird, I wonder where she and her family have run off to.
