chapter 20

Kyle's POV She is mine; she has been since I first saw her, and I knew there was something special about her. I kept her close to me and never allowed her out without me by her side. I didn't even allow her to speak to anyone. Then one day, I go out with the boys, and the ungrateful b*tch disappears on me. I searched for her for months before I knew where she was. I finally tracked her down to the hospital, where she was a patient. I stopped the pack's Beta, and he lied to my face. ME! HER MATE!! I waited until he thought I had left, then saw what room he had entered. I walked outside and looked through the window to see her in the arms of another male. I heard him call her his mate; NO, SHE IS MINE!! I WILL GET HER BACK NO MATTER WHAT!!! I watched them for a while, then left, planning on returning the next day. When I arrived in the morning, two more males were in the room, but they appeared to be guarding her. When I was close to the front doors, I heard some she-wolves call her Luna. No, no way she is coming home with me today!!! I watched the Alpha walk out with her, leading her to his giant black SUV car. I tried to intercept them, but he had already put her in his car and was heading around to his side and had the door open. When I was halfway there, I changed direction and ran to my beat-up blue sedan. I got in my car and started to follow them; even when he sped up, he couldn't lose me even though he tried. I was as close to them as I could, waiting for my chance to get to her, but he pulled up from what I presume was the pack house and rushed her inside while I parked just off to the side, hidden by some trees, but I knew I couldn't stay there. I would have to ditch my car somewhere and find a way to get to her. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I would get back what was mine and then make sure she knew better than to try this again; I would never let her go. SHE WAS MINE D*MN*T! As I pulled away, " Soon I will get you back, very soon", I promised, looking at the large packhouse. ******************** Lily's POV I watched as Shiann came racing toward me. She looked happy, but I could see the worry lines on her forehead and around her eyes as she got closer. " Lily!" she cried as she launched herself at me; we both almost ended up on the floor when I felt strong arms, followed by sparks racing up my back where my mate had placed his hand to steady us. "Be careful now, ladies", he said with a smirk directed at me, ensuring we were okay before making his way up the stairs to see Aidrian. Shiann took my hand, and we went into the living room, where Mrs Cooper had brought in some coffee, juice, small sandwiches and some of my favourite cookies. No one could make them like her. " You found your mate? What happened? Where were you?" She started firing questions at me as soon as we sat down. " Whoa, whoa, whoa," I said, grabbing a glass and preparing to pour myself a glass of juice. " I will answer all your questions, but we have lots of time, okay?" I asked her, looking her in the eye. " How have you been, " I hedged. She looked down at her hands, which were clasped tightly in her hands. " I've been OK ", she whispered. " I heard you are mated to Aidrian." I watched her carefully to see her reaction. She nodded her head up and down with a soft smile on her face and a slightly dreamy look in her eyes as she thought of him. " What's wrong then?" I asked her; I knew her tells from working with her. I was the one who knew when something was bothering her and got her to talk about it. "Remember me telling you about my ex," she asked, not making eye contact. " Yes," I replied cautiously. " Well..." she started, then trailed off, and as I looked closer, I could see fear creep into her eyes, and unshed tears were threatening to fall. " Shiann, it's OK," I told her, reaching out and taking her hand. "I'm here, and you are Uber safe here, " I told her, giving her hand a squeeze. " Only a fool would try anything here", I added. I reached over and picked up a glass, and poured her some juice; when I handed it to her, I noticed a slight tremor in her hands. I felt terrible for her, but I knew Aidrian would do everything he could to ensure she was safe at all times; I have known him my whole life. Growing up, he was like a second big brother, which was a pain because if he caught me somewhere I wasn't supposed to be, he always ratted me out to Jacob. Let's just say I ended up being grounded A LOT as a teenager, which s*cked, but I knew they loved me as I loved them. As I got to know Shiann, I started to think of her as a friend even though she never wanted to go anywhere after work and kept coming up with excuses why we couldn't go to her place. But over time, and as she told me bits and pieces over time about what happened before she came here, I understood, and I hoped that one day she would be able to trust me enough to let me in and trust that I would never hurt her. We ate in silence for a while when she turned to me. "So what happened, and where were you?" she asked while picking up a sandwich. " I was so worried about you, " she added as she placed the sandwich on her plate, turned to face me, and waited for my answer.
