After lunch, I take Lexi on a walk around the grounds. I want her to see our grounds, to feel like this is her home, show her the life I want to give her, help her forget her past.
Hearing her talk about never having a home, feeling unsafe, not belonging or knowing who she is broke my heart.
Alex whimpered the whole time, ‘mate needs us’
‘I know but we have to take it steady, she needs to feel like this is her home, we can’t force it on her, it’s all new, she’s had a lot to take in the last few days, it would be enough to make anyone want to run for the hills’.
‘She can’t leave us!’ Alex shouts, ‘she’s our mate, she’s our home now.’
‘I know, we’ll get there. We have the rest of our lives to show her she’s safe with us’.
