Chapter 6

843 Words
****Nate**** As soon as the door closes behind me, I take a breath. This girl could drive me crazy and she has no idea. I start to walk over to the pack house looking for my mom and dad. Hopefully they’ll be able to help. I find them both sitting in the kitchen, they both look up to me with smiles on their faces as I walk in. My mom comes over to give me a hug, my dad follows behind. ‘I’m glad you're back. How did everything with the other pack Alpha’s go?’ My dad asks. He’s an unassuming man on the surface, he’s tall, almost as tall as me, but slighter than me, his hair is thick but where it was black it is now grey. My sharp blue eyes are thanks to him. He may be getting on a little more than he once was, but he’s still as quick as a whippet and fierce, especially when his Alpha comes out. It takes a lot to set him off, but if he does, you had best stand back. ‘It was fine, nothing too much to report, I can fill you in later, I need to talk about something else, has mom filled you in?’ ‘She’s told me what you said this morning, but not much more’. ‘I don’t really know much more’, my mom starts. ‘She came into the diner last night as I was about to close up, there was something about her, lost, alone, when I went over to her, I could tell she was struggling and I sensed her wolf.’ ‘I was surprised when she didn’t really acknowledge mine, but I thought maybe she was a rogue and being cautious. It was almost like she had no idea at all though. I couldn’t leave her out alone that late, so I offered her a place to stay.’ ‘Besides that and her name, I don’t know anything more about her. Only that I knew I had to help her, I knew somehow coming here was where she was meant to be. Now I know why’ she says as she winks at me. I roll my eyes at her but can’t help laugh. ‘I need to find out more but I don’t want to scare her or push her into anything she’s not comfortable with. What am I supposed to do?’ It’s my dad that speaks up, ‘all you can do is be there for her, let her know you’re there for support, no matter what, be patient, be honest, hopefully she’ll come to see she can trust you, trust us, and we can go from there’. My mom looks at my dad with so much love in her eyes, they’ve been together since before their first shift, childhood sweethearts before they knew they were mates. I can only hope one day Lexi & I are that lucky. ‘I had better head back. I don’t want to be gone too long. I’ll see how she’s feeling when I’m back. We’ll come over in a few hours. Maybe if she gets a better understanding of our pack she’ll feel more comfortable staying longer.’ As I turn to leave, my mom calls out, ‘don’t worry sweetheart, we’ll get there; she doesn’t know it yet but she’s a lucky girl to have you in her corner’. ‘Wish me luck’ I call back. ‘God, I hope I don’t screw this up’, ‘let me do it, I won’t’, I shove Alex back, now is not the time for act now think later. ****Lexi**** I’m not really sure what to do with myself. I feel too anxious to just sit. I decide I’ll take his advice, make myself at home. I clean up in the kitchen, try to find where everything belongs and take a tour around the house. It’s deceptively bigger inside than it looks. It has 4 large bedrooms, another 2 bathrooms upstairs plus one downstairs. A TV room off the kitchen and what looks to be an office. I find another set of stairs down to another floor; here there is a home gym with equipment I’ve never seen before, let alone know how to use. A room that looks like a home cinema with a huge sofa big enough for 4 people to sleep on and what looks to be a games room. I head upstairs and see a large glass sliding door off the kitchen leading to the huge garden that’s backed by the forest. As I step outside I’m hit with the smell of damp morning grass, trees and wild flowers. It’s unbelievable and I instantly feel calm. I’ve always loved being outside, the freedom, the calm, the space. There’s another swing out here too and I climb into it and lay back listening to the sounds of the trees moving, feel the air blowing on my skin, the heat of the sun on my face, the sound of nature going about it’s day uninterrupted.
