Auditions

"Do I really have to sit here for this?" I whispered to Camila. Auditions were today and I was already bored. We haven't gotten any bad singer yet and they were all singing songs I didn't recognize. "Stop, it's nice and everyone is doing a good job," she grinned. "Yeah, but I thought at least one person would suck and put on a good show," I winked at her. A girl came onto the stage next and the minute the music started everyone looked like they had seen a ghost. "I'm here You are too "Even if it's just in my imagination, baby This time I want to be the full moon that awaits you And lights you up As a friend, I have been faithful to you," "Are you f*****g serious," Miguel came from backstage and stopped the girl from singing any further. "What happened?" I asked Camila. "Um, that's my song, I mean the main characters song," she said worriedly. "But you wrote it so it is your song," I said. "Yeah, I know but still-," Camila's face wouldn't leave Miguel. "You okay?" I asked. "He is upset but he should have let her finish," she said. "Yeah, I would have loved to hear it," I told her. "Will you sing it for me." "Maybe," she gave me this coy smile but I knew she would. "Oh my, look." I looked back at the stage and saw the brunette freckle-faced Jennifer. Miguel stepped off the stage and sat down in the front row. She looked nervous and after a minute she started singing. Camila told me she didn't sing a song from the musical. I guess she wouldn't, given she felt some type of way about it just like everyone else. She had a nice voice but it was louder and raspier then Camila's voice. The teacher complimented her more than the others. "SHE SHOULD GET THE PART!" Camila shouted knowing no one could hear her. I laughed a little and I guess everyone thought I was laughing at Jennifer so they gave me dirty looks especially Miguel. I waved at him and he only got more pissed but I was enjoying messing with him. "Dude, what are you doing here," I heard Marco say as he came over to sit next to me. "Nothing, just catching the show," I joked. "Right," he laughed. Finally, we got some bad singer and I knew I should make fun of them but it was hard not too. Camila gave me frowny faces and stuck her tongue out at me when my laughter got loud enough to overshadow the singers on stage. The auditions were finally over and the teacher overseeing all of this finally got up and spoke. "Ok, the cast listing will be up tomorrow morning. Thank you all and I do hope we have a great show this Winter and pay honor to our very own Camila. I know last year's show would have been incredible because it was beautiful from the very beginning but-, the teacher never finished because Miguel stood up and looked straight at her. I looked at Camila and her face was sad again. I wish she would just tell me what happened. "Are you leaving," Marco asked when everyone started heading out. "No, not yet," I said. " I might skip my next class." Marco winked at me and left. Camila frowned and said I shouldn't do that. I was just joking but I wanted her to get on stage and sing. "So," I said as I pointed to the stage. "Now?" "Yeah," "Um," "Don't be shy," "I'm not," "Ok, then go, before I drag you," and with that Camila walked to the stage. "I'm here You are too Even if it's just in my imagination, baby This time I want to be the full moon that awaits you And lights you up As a friend, I have been faithful to you Now I have you on my skin I know it won't happen But I can dream" "What are you doing here," Jennifer said scaring the crap out of me. "Nothing," I said annoyingly. She rolled her eyes at me. "Why are you helping out with the musical?" she asked. "Cuz I want too," I didn't want to be rude but she was cold to me all the other times I tried to talk to her. "Can I ask you a favor," she said as she looked at the empty seats in front of us. "Um, sure," "Will you hear me sing this one song from the play and then tell me how I did," she said nervously. "Why?" I said confused. "Because you have never heard it and you don't know-," she didn't finish her sentence but I know what she was going to say. Little did she know, I did know Camila and heard her voice. Camila nodded letting me know it was okay to do so. I didn't really care but I guess I was doing it more for Camila then Jennifer. "Okay, go ahead." Jennifer started singing. This time her voice was low and soft. I was getting mesmerized and I didn't know if it was the lyrics or her voice that was overwhelming me with such emotion. I don't know when Camila started crying but when the song was over and I finally looked over at her, she was crying. I couldn't even say anything without looking crazy so I gritted my teeth and waited until Jennifer left. "How was it?" Jennifer asked. "It was beautiful," I said honestly. "Thank you," Jennifer came over and hugged me. I tried to back away but it felt wrong to push her. She finally let go and smiled as she ran out of the auditorium. "Camila," I said. "I have to go," she said softly. "Wait, no, what?" I said in disbelief. "No, Where? no stay, please." She didn't say anything, she just suddenly disappeared and left me shouting all alone. "CAMILA, PLEASE COME BACK!"
