Emily startled awake, shivering violently. Moonlight streamed in through a crack in the curtains of Amy's bedroom at the Cottage. As her eyes registered details and her mind started filling in gaps, she got up and carefully made her way to the bathroom, avoiding the pile of books in the middle of the floor. She splashed water on her face as the adrenaline faded. Returning to the bedroom, she changed into some of Amy's old pajamas and sat down in the middle of the sliver of moonlight, hugging her knees to her chest. As she sat in the dark, waiting for the trembling to subside, her eyes fell on the jewelry box, and she picked it up.
