The century

Two voices utter,” Mom! Why are we hated for our colour, we were just fine in Africa till the whites came.” the boy asked. “ My boy, fate is not chosen by us but a string we live in. We are destined for something great and we have the power to choose who we want to be. The boy smiles and says,’ I understand.’ 1734, USA, Kansas in a black township. The night the sky broke, Eric Johnson was 11. He woke to silence . No crickets, no wind, no breath from his mother in the next door. He stepped outside his family's cabin and saw the crater, where his village used to be. Three miles of trees , homes turned into black ash. In the center of the crater, a stone pulsed with bright light. He touched it. The stone was warm, it split and bright energy was all over . It infused within his chest causing severe pain and burns. He screamed but the sound died half a mile. His burns closed over a minute, skin knitting like it had always been there. By dawn , colonial soldiers found him , their captain called him,’ A devil’ and ordered, ‘ kill him’. He just flinched at lightning speed. The man's chest caved in as if he had been hit with a cannonball. Eric ran as far as he could till he reached the woods. He lived in the woods for over a year . He learnt he didn't get hungry quickly. His powers began to transcend. He was able to run faster than horses, deers and Jaguars. One time he sent a rock flying weighing 45kg 564m high. Tanked a bite from a Jaguar. The woods helped him to become a hunter and protector of the wild. At the age of 12, he saw bandits set fire to a farmstead. He remembered his mother's voice ‘ Help them’ Eric stepped out of the trees and broke the man's axe with his hand , when the others fled, he put the fire out himself. The joy that he saw from the people gave him a kick out of it, if he could make a few people happy, what of a billion people. This became ‘ The dawn of the century.’ ‘ Strength means nothing if you won't stand when others fall’ Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's acting despite it.
