Tartaros
I wonder who I am. This thought suddenly crossed my mind after a second. I don't remember anything else prior to that. Before, there was only endless darkness. But now I am aware of myself. I should be someone, something, but I have no idea who or what. A human? That should be my race, but where in the world did I learn that? Do I have a mother or a father to teach me? No. I don't have something like that. But this is strange. I feel like I know more and more with every thought, but also there is the sensation that the fundamental knowledge is... blocked. This place is weird. No light, no sound, only the stench of death and disease. How did I get here? I was born here. Weird. If this place is my birthplace, then it should have some light, no? I remember the light very clearly. From where? Again, no idea. It was as if someone erected an impenetrable wall of glass. Only a little more, and I could reach it. Yet I fail. Should I try to speak? But do I even know a language? How am I even aware of the existance of languages? Am I thinking in a certain language right now? "Hello." I started with words of greeting because I felt like it was appropriate. My voice echoed in the dark, like talking ten times at once. It was deep, but not to deep. A voice that belongs to a human boy. So I must be a human, right? Somehow I couldn't even convince myself. "Is anybody there? I am warning you, all the intruders coming here have never returned alive." A voice that wasn't mine greeted me back, albeit unfriendly. It was a mellow voice that I'm assuming belongs to a female. I couldn't see anything before, but now there was a light source quiverly approaching me. Is she afraid because I'm an intruder, or because humans are afraid of the dark? Humans are afraid of the dark. Then I guess I really am not human. I find the darkness relaxing and liberating. It's truly astounding how a single thought of mine makes me realize several new things about myself I didn't know. I should attempt to think more. "Am I an intruder? I woke up here." I say as the light source is close enough to see the woman vaguely. "lies! The door was unlocked, " she said. I could now see she wore sevant's clothes. "And there shouldn't be anyone other than myself with the key." "Is that so? But this is troubling. I have no idea about... about anything. Prior to waking up here, there is nothing." The maid made a dubious expression and shrinked the distance between us. I could now clearly see her face. "Nice try. I will take you to the..." She has a face. Nose, mouth, ears, eyes. All seem in place. No doubt, she is a human. I wonder why she suddenly stopped talking with words and raised a deafening screech. Is it another type of language I am unaware of? No, this is a clear sign of terror. Am I so ugly to look at? I touch my face but I could only feel my face being the same as hers. She started running with all her might as water dripped from the nose and eyes. Stumbling a few times, the lamp she was carrying shattered, restoring the darkness. What should I do? I could follow her. I remember seeing a key ring being dropped along with the lamp, and I think I am supposed to return it. Grabbing the keys and walking nonchalantly in the maid's direction, I noticed this is the first time I move my body. It felt so natural I nearly missed it. The more I walk, I feel strong attraction to my original location. Every cell in my body pleaded me to head backwards toward the dark, towards the void. Ah well, then maybe I should return. Let's just return the keys first. After taking several more steps, I encountered a golden wall. It appeared a meter away from me. There seem to be only one way out so the maid also must have gone through here. I decided to just go for it for now. "It feels itchy," Like a mosquito. I went through the golden wall of light with only this strange sensation. The need to return subsided substantially so I was no longer in a hurry. I entered the outside. Wait, should I say exited since it's outside? Or is it fine because I have no recollection of ever being outside? It was another closed room. However, this one was longer and filled with light, whelming my sight for a moment. "There it is, sir Wilton! The monster!" Here is the maid. Accompanied by a male human with a wrinkled face and white hair. I took a step closer. "No! Don't come closer!" She also took a step back and started crying. How am I supposed to return the keys now? "What are you?" Asked sir Wilton. "You wear the skin of a human, yet your eyes represent the abyss itself. You are clearly different than a normal Tartaros worshiper." "Even if you ask, I have no idea what..." Wait. Tartaros worshiper. Instantaneously, these words made me comprehend something about myself that I have forgotten. I am... "Tartaros." I said, almost as a natural as breathing, "I am Tartaros." Maybe it's just my imagination, but saying my name like that made me feel majestic. Supreme. They sucked a breath. Are they believing me? "W-Why have you escaped your prison and assumed a human form?" The human named Wilton barely repressed his fright and spouted the words. Why, he asked? I moved naturally and zeroed the distance with the maid. "You forgot your keys." I placed the keys in her palm. Even if he asks me, I don't know. I am Tartaros. I know that much. But other than that, nothing else clicks inside me. I wonder who I am. I thought like that for the second time today.
