BLUE EYES
RUBY'S POV
"Get up!" Paris raged, darting her eyes around my room as she flung my door open. She quickly walked towards my switch and turned on the light before I could even stammer a reply.
"Ah! My eyes!" I screamed, using my stinky blanket to cover my face.
" Ruby! Get up right now!" She yelled again.
"Leave me alone, Paris..." I replied while a single tear slowly rolled down.
"No, I am not going to leave this room until you stop being a depressed adult." She roared furiously.
I remained still in that position, squeezing my eyes shut against the bright light, against Paris, and against all my problems.
I refused to be moved by her terrifying presence. I buried myself inside the blanket.
" Come on, this isn't the Ruby I met in the past. The Ruby I know is strong and happy and..."
"Please leave my room, Paris." I interrupted her. My voice was barely above a whisper.
" I don't understand why you would be depressed over that stupid, worthless Andrew. He cheated on you, and you broke up with him. He didn't leave you, you left him. He should be the depressed one, not you!"
" I don't expect you to understand what I am going through right now, you have never been in love."
"Yes, but the last time I checked I was not the one living like a pig because of a man. " She blurted, forcefully pulling my blanket away. Opening my eyes, her glare caused my heart to throb.
I quickly rose up to cover my face with the blanket. When I couldn't see where she must have kept it, I snapped and cried out.
"I hate you, leave my room now!" I swam to the other corner of my bed, away from Paris.
"If doing the right thing is going to make you hate me, if helping you get out of your misery is going to make you hate me, if telling you the truth is going to make you hate me, then I am fine with it." She quickly responded. I could hear the pain in her voice.
In the blink of an eye, she was already sitting next to me- gently caressing my back.
" A mere cheating boyfriend shouldn't have the power to make you stay inside your room this long." Her lips quivered in anger.
She was right, I had been in my room for...
"What is today?" I asked.
"Friday, Ruby, today is Friday!" She rudely said to me.
I had been inside my room for three days, without food and in total darkness. I hated the fact that she was right.
"And...what...is...the...time?" I stuttered.
"4pm"
"4pm?" My heart sank in disbelief.
Her loud ringtone broke the two-minute silence.
" Hello?" She answered in a low tone.
" Oh, okay. I'll be at the hospital in five minutes." She cleared her throat as she ended the call.
She ran her fingers through my hair, shoving it back and away from my face.
" I'll be back, but please give yourself a warm bath. I can barely breathe in this room." She withdrew her hands and stood up.
" Go do your magic, doctor." I struggled to say, maintaining a stern look.
" Take good care of yourself, I'll be right back. Love you..." Paris blurted and ran off.
In less than two hours, she was back, and I was out of the room. I had decided to prepare something to eat, so I wouldn't starve to death.
"Oh! Look what we've got here..." Paris giggled.
A forced "Hi," escaped my lips as she loomed closer.
"Hi, miss sad princess. I have something for you."
I turned around immediately, paying no mind to the possibility of cutting off one of my fingers with the knife I held carelessly.
She vehemently handed me a red weightless box. I was so eager to see what she got for me. Dipping my hand inside, I touched something silky.
"We are going out tonight," said Paris.
"Where are we going to?" I questioned, bringing out the silky-like material.
To my greatest surprise, it was a dress that I had always wanted to get for myself. I gasped.
"You've got to be kidding!" I exclaimed.
"We are going to party tonight at Saturn." She replied gently with a broad smile.
I totally ignored the fact that she wanted us to go to the biggest nightclub in Greenville. I was completely focused on the velvet gown in front of me.
"Paris!"
"Ruby!"
I threw my hands in the air as I backed off her, dragging them in for a hug.
It didn't take a lot of time for us to quickly get dressed and go to the party. I didn’t even think of how she must have gotten tickets to the club and I didn't care to ask.
I was too overwhelmed to even say a word.
Matching into the nightclub, we were all masked and dancing tight against each other as we swayed to the music.
"Let me go and get us some drinks!" She shouted, but I wasn't sure what she said, so I asked her to repeat herself.
" I said, let me go and get us some drinks!" She repeated and then she left me.
Amid the loud music, I felt a strong grip around my waist. I could tell it was a man's hand because of how hard his palms were. Without having any second thoughts, I removed his hands immediately.
He gripped it again and carefully rubbed my navel with the tip of his finger. He moved his mouth closer to my ear and whispered" Hello, pretty. Can you see that man over there?"
He shifted my chin towards the person he wanted me to see.
"Who are you and who are you talking about?"
A burst of laughter escaped his mouth like a snort while he lowered his head to talk to me again, "That man over there, he wants you. Go to him."
Squinting my eyes, I could see three men, two men and from nowhere a man's gaze met mine. Tormenting me with his deep blue eyes.
