Chapter 6: The Mysterious Meeting

286 Words
The note's cryptic message sent a shiver down Jameson's spine. Who had the victim been supposed to meet, and what was the purpose of their clandestine rendezvous? The old oak mentioned in the note was likely a specific landmark, but without more information, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Jameson and Rodriguez decided to canvass the area, showing the note to locals and asking if anyone knew about the old oak. After hours of questioning, they finally got a hit. An elderly man, who introduced himself as George, recognized the description of the tree. "Ah, you're talkin' about the ancient oak on the hill," George said, his voice dripping with a local twang. "It's an old landmark, been there for centuries. But I ain't been up there in years. It's a mighty isolated spot." Jameson's eyes lit up with interest. "Can you take us there?" George nodded, and with his guidance, they made their way to the old oak. The tree loomed before them, its gnarled branches twisted with age. Jameson noticed that the area around the tree seemed to be disturbed, with faint signs of recent foot traffic. Rodriguez began to process the scene, collecting any potential evidence. Jameson, meanwhile, examined the tree itself, searching for any signs of hidden messages or clues. As he circled around the trunk, he spotted a small, almost imperceptible mark on the bark – a symbol that seemed to match the ones found in the victim's journal. The discovery sent Jameson's mind racing. What did the symbol mean, and how was it connected to the victim's murder? He knew they were getting closer to the truth, but the killer might still be one step ahead.
