The Woods Revisited

Chapter 5: The Woods Revisited Jameson and Rodriguez returned to the woods near Raven's Peak, determined to find the spot the victim had been searching for. The dense foliage seemed to swallow them whole as they trekked deeper into the forest. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. As they walked, Jameson couldn't shake the feeling they were being watched. He glanced around, but the trees seemed to stand sentinel, their branches motionless. Suddenly, Rodriguez stopped, her eyes fixed on something ahead. "Look," she whispered. A small clearing emerged from the trees, and in its center stood an old, weathered bench. Carved into the wood was a single word: "Erebus." Jameson's eyes met Rodriguez's. "This must be the spot the victim was looking for," he said, his voice low. Rodriguez began to scan the area, her eyes searching for any signs of evidence. Jameson examined the bench, noticing a small inscription on the side: "For those who seek the truth." A chill ran down Jameson's spine. What truth was the victim seeking? And what had she found? As they continued to investigate the clearing, Jameson stumbled upon a small, hidden compartment in the bench. Inside, a note read: "Meet me at the old oak at midnight. Come alone."
