Chapter 4
The woods near Raven's Peak loomed before them, dense and unforgiving. Jameson and Rodriguez geared up, preparing for a thorough search. They had a team of officers combing the area, but Jameson wanted to see the spot where the victim might have been.
As they hiked, the silence was oppressive. Jameson's eyes scanned the terrain, searching for any sign of disturbance. Suddenly, Rodriguez stopped, her gaze fixed on something.
"What is it?" Jameson asked, moving closer.
Rodriguez pointed to a faint trail of footprints, partially erased by the underbrush. "Looks like someone – or something – was following the victim."
Jameson's instincts kicked in. He carefully followed the footprints, his senses on high alert. The trail led them deeper into the woods, the trees growing taller and the air thickening with an eerie energy.
They stumbled upon a clearing, and in the center, Jameson saw a makeshift shelter – a small tent, hastily erected. Nearby, a journal lay open, the pages filled with cryptic notes and sketches.
Jameson's eyes widened as he recognized the sketches – they depicted the woods, but with strange symbols and markings overlaid on the landscape. It looked like the victim had been mapping something, but what?
The air seemed to vibrate with tension. Jameson felt like they were getting close to the truth, but the woods seemed to be watching them, waiting for them to uncover secrets that were meant to remain hidden.
