The Nerd Across The Aisle
I'm Alicia Smith, a 15 year old in grade 10 and currently a victim of endless calculations from maths to physics, chemistry, and accounting.. and right now, I'm in the midst of year-end exams that only God knows whether I'm going to pass because neither of these three subjects make sense to me at all. I wonder what spell had been put in each answersheet of mine in the previous terms for me to be able to make past a 30% and pass. Gone are the days when one used to pass all subjects with A's. The only two subjects that make sense to me are English and Biology, and the rest can go to hell.
Or just maybe hell is where I'm headed to right now. Because not only am I writing physics but I also have to take a bus to school. I only started taking the bus to school two weeks back. Believe me, these busses we take are a true definition of diversity. In fact, biodiversity just for humans, though. Students from different multi racial schools of different places across Durban take buses to school, even adults with different qualifications, jobs, etc. There are many buses for different destinations obviously, and I just happen to be that one person who happens to take an estimation of 70% of the busses that go past my home since most go by my school. Thus, I have the trauma of seeing new faces almost every day without hope of making any new friends or building networks.
As it is most of these kids are all from rich families and seem like people without academic adversities until it's exam time because that's the only time you'll find them discussing schoolwork. So there really is no hope for me to get acquainted with any of them since I doubt I'll ever have common topics to discuss with either of them. However, there's one thing I've noticed about the bus environment; we're all choice assorted. Most +60% girls are pretty and guys...well, handsome, but I'm just happen to be the Nerd guy's girl. There's that thing about them that keeps pulling me towards them. Sadly, it always remains a silent spark unexplored...
