Chapter 1 Surrendering to the Supreme Alpha—I Bet It All
My shoulders and neck were covered in bite marks, every bone throbbing like it had been crushed to pulp.
Last night, I’d climbed into Lucas’s bed—Lucas, the Supreme Alpha of the Silver Claw Pack—and awakened our primal blood resonance, determined to bind myself to him so tightly he’d never shake me off.
The shower in the bathroom went silent.
He stepped out, wrapped in a bathrobe, broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, droplets of water still clinging to his skin. The scratch marks I’d left on him twisted and crisscrossed his torso—but he didn’t spare me a single glance. He strode straight to his clothes, his aura cold as ice.
“Lucas, you had quite the stamina last night.” I padded barefoot over to him, wrapping my arms around his waist from behind, my fingertips tracing the muscles of his sides.
In the next heartbeat, my wrist was seized and wrenched away so violently I stumbled back and slammed into the wall, hissing in pain.
“Let go.” His voice was sharp with frost, his hands never pausing as he buttoned his shirt, fastening every button to hide all traces of our night together.
Who was he trying to fool with this icy act? Wasn’t it him who’d lost control and rut against me under the moonlight last night?
I stood my ground, completely naked—princess of the Silver Claw Pack, with a body of flawless curves—but his gaze slid right over me, as if I were nothing more than a chunk of stone.
“Let me tie your tie, Alpha.” I lunged forward, snatching his hand.
“Get out.”
The single word was like a punch. I was thrown backward, landing hard on the carpet, the impact jolting my tailbone so sharply tears sprang to my eyes. He didn’t even flinch. Instead, he finished tying his tie with icy precision, then stared down at me, his golden wolf eyes blazing with fury. “Who sent you? A spy from the rival clans?”
“No one sent me. I’ve loved you for years.” I squeezed out tears, my voice trembling with feigned vulnerability. “Last night was my first true blood bonding.”
“You expect me to take responsibility?” He scoffed, his eyes dripping with contempt. “You? I ought to have you thrown into the pack’s dungeon for life.”
I sobbed, pointing at the discarded protection in the trash can. “The cameras recorded you dragging me into this room! I can charge you with violating me—ruin your reputation, destroy everything you have!”
He laughed, a harsh, bitter sound that held no humor. “Name your price. How much hush money do you want?”
“I don’t want your money.” My fingers brushed the permanent bite mark on my chest, each word heavy with determination. “I want you, my Alpha.”
“Marry you?” He looked at me like I’d lost my mind. “A princess from a disgraced, minor branch of the pack?”
I opened my mouth to retort—but his comms device buzzed.
The second he answered, the frigid coldness that surrounded him melted away entirely. The voice on the other end was soft, coquettish—my own sister, Leah’s voice. “Darling, I can’t pick you up next week. I have business to take care of in the human world the day you return.”
Lucas’s tone turned so tender it could have melted butter. “It’s alright, my love. Focus on your work.”
“Aren’t you upset that your fiancée won’t be there to greet you?”
“How could I ever be upset with you?”
Those four words nailed me to the spot, my blood turning to ice.
So it wasn’t that he was incapable of warmth—it was just that his warmth was never meant for me. Was it only because Leah was a true-born heir of the main clan, while I was just a stray they’d taken in from a minor branch?
I scrambled to my feet, lunging at him like a vine coiling around its prey. My fingers fisted around the buckle of his belt, my eyes wild with desperation. “I don’t want your money! I want you! What do you think your precious fiancée will say when she sees all these bite marks on my body?”
