A few weeks ago,
Lenore was coming back from school and stopped by the coffee shop she goes to every day. As soon as she entered the café, the owner greeted her with a big smile on her face: Hola, mi amore! How was your day? Lenore replied with the same energy: Great, thank you. How was yours? The woman replied by saying: Nothing special, little one, just as usual. Lenore gets her coffee in five minutes. The waitress brought her coffee and sat beside her. They started talking and just a few moments later Lenore went quiet and just listened to what the other person was saying, interrupted by the owner as she told the waitress to get back to work. The lady walked towards Lenore as the waitress walked away. : I don't understand how you mark everyday great when there is nothing great about the day. The little one just smiles while looking at the ground. You are the most precious thing I know, stated the lady. She kisses Lenore's head and walks away while asking god why this little angel has to live in a dark and empty world.
So, about the little angel the lady was talking about was just seven when she lost her parents. She didn't have grandparents as they died before she was even born, and she didn't know anything about her family background. After all, she was just a child who could barely remember her address. When Lenore's parents died in an accident, nobody showed up but her father's friends. So she came to the conclusion that she didn't have anybody to call her family now. Her father's friends took care of the paper work and the rest. But they had no idea about what to do with the child. They were all young and weren't ready to take such a great responsibility of raising a child. But they were also unable to let the child just become an orphan. After all, her father was a good man and all the kindness he had shown them, they felt very guilty. Yet they couldn't really do anything about the situation, so they decided to be a little help. They got her into a home where people who lost their families live with the help of charity. They thought it was a better idea as the child gets good education, food, clothes and shelter under someone's care. So, since then, she has been living with them. She could have been a totally different person, but thanks to the people around her for showing her the warmth of humanity. Even though she lost her family at a very young age, she grew up as a kind and selfless girl. Unlike most of the others in the home, she has her own room even though she is very young. Yet she always reminds herself to be grateful and kind, and thanks god every day for the things she has, as there are people with nothing. Food, clothes, shelter and education are what she is grateful for, as well as the people around her.
The next day, when she went to the café, it was closed. She was surprised. If there was anything going on, the lady would have told her earlier, but she didn't mention anything yesterday, so it was very unlikely of her. Just when she was about to go, she saw a letter on the little shelf in the window of the café, and it was written To Lenore on it. She opened it and read it: Dear Lenore, I am sorry honey, something came up. I had no choice but to move immediately, but I can't let you miss your coffee, so please go to the small coffee shop which is located 3 blocks from your home. I know it is far, but I want to make it up for you, so I gave the old lady the exact recipe of how you drink your coffee. My love. I hope you can go there. Take care of yourself. I'll be back in a few days. I am sorry I can't make you coffee for a few days. LOVE YOU!.
Lenore did as the lady pleased. She went to the coffee shop. It was a small and cozy space which made her fall in love with it instantly. On top of that, it was nearly in the woods, which made it peaceful and even better.
{This story takes place in the early 2000s, in a still vintage small town far away from the cities.}
The old lady greeted her with a warm smile which made her wrinkles go up and made her eyes look almost like they didn't exist. Lenore greeted her back: you must be Lenore. Come dear, your coffee is waiting for you. Lenore was a bit surprised: Oh, thank you very much, but how do you know that it's me, asked Lenore? Oh, your aunt told me that you would come here by this time. Your aunt mentioned clearly that a young girl would be, by early evening, dressed like an old soul. And also, no one of your age really came here, so I knew it was you. She chuckled as Lenore shyly smiled, lowering her head. Lenore gets her coffee. She asks the lady if no one really comes here, then the lady tells her that some regular customers, who are mostly middle and old people. Mild-middle-aged people are ready to grow old while trying to be grateful for the youth they have got, while the old ones' hearts sound like they are ready to fall in love for the first time… Lenore was just listening to the old woman while adoring her. After some time, when she was about to leave, the old woman asked her if she could do her a favor. The little one agreed. The lady asked her to deliver the basket full of bread and fruits to her house, which is somewhere near. She told Lenore that her husband would be waiting for her, so she told him that she would be a little late as she had to take care of some cleaning. Lenore nodded, and the old woman apologized for giving her such trouble, but Lenore just smiled and told her that she was happy to help and left, as her figure became blurry and finally vanished from the old person's eyes. After walking for a while, she finally found a small house which was built of wood and bricks. She knocked on the door, but there was no reply. She knocks a few more times louder. The old woman's husband opens the door and asks if she needs any help. Lenore tells him that his wife has sent her as she has some cleaning to do at the shop, then she informs him that his wife will be late and hands him the basket. The old man asks her if she would like to come inside and have something, but she politely tells him that she needs to go but would like to visit the couple some other time. They both said fair well to each other and Lenore started to head back. After walking for a while, Lenore realized that she was lost in the woods. She was not familiar with woods and forests. On top of that, she barely came from this direction of the town. The fog was growing due to the weather and the sky changing its color from the romantic rose of the combination of young love, orange and pink, to a dark soul color.
