“You tried to kill mom? For the inheritance? How could you be so desperate?” Martha pushed Kate away from their mother as they rushed her to the emergency room. Kate fell in the arms of the stranger who claimed not to know who she was.
She quivered in his arms, unable to make sense out of the words she uttered, as everyone looked at her with blame. How could they think so lowly of her? She could do anything but not kill her mother.
She hadn’t realized who held onto her hand and led her out of the scene, she only repeated herself over and over “I didn’t do it”.
Patricia was old and had little time against her despite her will to stay strong and keep going. The allergic reaction took a harsh turn on her health.
A war between siblings placed her life at risk now. She had to get better to save her family from itself.
“Here you go” A hot cup of coffee was placed before Kate on the table. Her eyes took a glance at his face as he walked to take a seat.
She didn’t seem to recognize him yet and was too paranoid to think about that. Her mother is yet to wake up and someone just set her up for that.
Her fingers wrapped around the cup as she took deep breaths.
“My name is” he started but was cut short when his eyes caught on Jacob quickly as he walked up to Kate with a feisty look on his face, he looked as though he was ready to torture her.
This young man quickly stood up from his seat, throwing the chair behind him, and intercepted with Jacob’s hands. Though he didn’t look like he was about to beat up his sister, He had no calmness, a scene where he gets abusive had to be prevented.
“Get out of my way” Jacob groaned.
“Is this your new pawn for protection?” He added setting his gaze on Kate and looking away from the stranger.
“You did this!” She yelled at the peak of her voice as she stood abruptly from the chair, spilling the warm coffee all over the table.
The man quickly grabbed her waist and pulled her near, away from the table.
Jacob returned the irritating look his sister gave to me with more spiteful words. With his fingers pointing at the man he made a sly comment
“You wanted the money so bad you even have an ally to spend it with?” He laughed.
Kate's eyes darted between the man and her brother, with a forceful snap she pushed him away from her and glared at him, realizing how comfortable he was listening to all Jacob had to say.
How could he stay quiet, she wondered.
He could feel the tension between these two siblings as he stood there. Yet to introduce himself, he couldn’t pick a side, but only stood still preventing any physical confrontation.
He needed Patricia to wake up as well, his plans were enshrouded and his presence filled the atmosphere with suspense.
“You are indeed shameless, little sister” Jacob continued.
“Shut up!” she said through her clenched teeth.
“Oh no, you don’t get to tell me that. As soon as Mom wakes up, I will put you in your place.” Jacob warned with his fingers pointing at her.
“Shut the hell up!” She groaned. Their voices rose and emotions were flaring in the moment. They were so loud that they got the attention of everyone around, most finding their act a bit embarrassing for two adults.
She was at her boiling point and was ready to engage in the heat of the flames her brother had ignited.
Jacob stared at her in contemplation of saying another word. His eyes wandered around in observation.
He realized the stare of disgust cast on them as they made a scene, but just as he was about to leave, a flicker of hesitation crossed him.
He turned around with a look of frustration but before any word could escape his mouth, the young man beside Kate gave a heavy sigh and snatched the arms of Kate.
Without permission, he took her away from the embarrassing scene, leaving the unsaid words hanging in the air.
Words silently escaped her lips.
“Let me go” while his hands held her arm so tight that she moved at his pace.
As they walked away, and his pace was slow again, her eyes were already like a mirror, it was teary and with a single blink, those tears would run down her cheeks.
He came to a stop and turned to her. His eyes met with hers and he could see her eyes filled with emotions.
He couldn’t help but sympathize with her. He gently pulled her in his arms, resting her head in his chest and wrapping her in a hug. Her eyes closed as she leaned in as if tasting comfort for the first time.
Suddenly a voice disrupted her little peace like a bell, causing her to push away from the warmth she felt.
“The patient is awake now,” a doctor said as he stepped out of Patricia’s room.
Martha stood abruptly with her sons as they heard this.
“She is stable right now, but I would advise you to go in one at a time.” He warned.
A discerned voice echoed in their ears from behind them.
“I will!” Jacob said.
Martha flinched as she looked in his direction. Kate looked over her shoulders recognizing the voice she hated most as he walked in her direction.
The air is never calm when they’re both together. None of these siblings got along but it was a war zone for these two.
“I would advise you take your simp along and get lost” his hand stretched to the direction he came from, letting them know what way to exit as he rudely referred to the man whose identity they were yet to know, but stood by Kate.
He nodded with a smirk as he took in the insult from Jacob
.
“Who is Kate?” The doctor asked suddenly.
“Me” Kate drifted her gaze quickly. “I am Kate” she insisted.
“You can go see her, she asked to see you” The doctor opened the door and showed her in. Kate rushed in without a glimpse of hesitation, mixed with worries and joy.
“Do you want her to kill our mother?” Jacob vents at the doctor through his clenched teeth, following him with a wide stare as the doctor walks away without response.
Kate's shaken hands clinched into her mother’s cold hands. She sat by her mother sobering as she watched her struggle to speak.
“My dear child” Patricia managed to say in a low whisper, with a dry voice. She continued to utter words that were barely understood by Kate.
“I still remember the first day I saw you” She paused as a deep sigh escaped her lips and in a moment, tears began to flow out of her eyes
“You were in tears, crying, and all alone that day” she continued.
“Mom, what are you talking about?” Kate leaned forward amidst her tears as her mother's words caused a stir in confusion for her.
Patricia’s eyes widened in her struggle to speak
“I took you” She paused and her eyeballs slowly sank into her eyes while her body began to shake.
kate strout from her seat in a confused state began to scream in a plea for help.
“No Mom” she taps her mother's cheek lightly to wake her up.
