Kate’s agonizing cry pierced the silence outside the room, her dry cry reached the ears of everyone outside causing a sudden pause in everyone. They froze in moments of confusion as their eyes met with one another. They rushed into the room, and Jacob quickly hit the button to call for an emergency. He grabbed Kate by the arm from behind and had a tight grip. He began to blame Kate again as he dragged her out. “what have you done?” he said. Kate in a struggle to break free from his grip, kept crying and fought hard not to be pulled out of the room like she wasn’t meant to be there. As she was dragged out like a rag doll, the doctor rushed in with nurses, and they asked everyone to leave the room immediately as Patricia was unstable again. “Let go of me” Kate cried, but Jacob continued to pull her out of the building. She didn’t want to leave her mother’s side, but this was the perfect opportunity for Jacob to get her out of good grace and finally get rid of her. “Just shut up,” Jacob said through his clenched teeth as he forcefully dragged her out of the building. The scene caused a stare amongst everyone who watched. No one dared come close to help. Suddenly, from behind Jacob, a strong grip clinched on his shoulder, forcing him to stop. Again, the same stranger he had insulted earlier came before him. “Why on earth would you do this to your sister?” the man complained as he held Jacob‘s hand with a tight grip, pulling him away from Kate. The air was tense and their gaze was an exchange, fueled with confrontation as he tussled till he separated Jacob from Kate. As Kate escaped Jacob’s grip, she staggered forward, almost dropping to the floor, but she caught her balance. She turned around in a flash, and with quick steps, she stood before Jacob and dashed a tight slap on his cheek. She cussed him. “you demon! You are a monster!” She cried, hitting both fists on his chest while everyone watched. Jacob’s eyebrows knitted together in anger, he grabbed her wrist tightly and pushed her away. She fell on the floor and she cried out in pain. In the heat of the moment, the man rushed at Jacob with a punch to his face, hitting him so hard that he fell straight to the ground. He couldn’t bear the sight of a man treating a woman that way, he tried had to not get involved In their family drama but Jacob wasn’t letting Kate be. It was an ugly sight in the hospital as they drew the attention of many to themselves while their mom was in the emergency room fighting for her life. Some security men had rushed in to excuse them from the building, but Jacob insisted he would stay as the guardian to his mother who is now a patient in the hospital. He insisted that Kate must leave the building for attempting to kill their mother. At that moment, the man found it best for Kate to also leave. “Do not worry, we will leave” He offered his hand to assist her up. “I will take you home, it’s best to let him have his way right now. It will be pointless arguing” he added as she got up to her feet. He held her wrist gently and walked with her through the exit, he created no room for further arguments as he pulled her away. Kate’s eyes were fixed on Jacob. A stare of hate and rivalry. It was more than a setup, she almost lost her mother and those thoughts bothered her. She wondered if she could meet her mom again. The whole misfortune started from a birthday party which was merely a move by her mother in disguise to find her a suitor amongst the guests. The night which was intended to be celebrated, took a drastic time as Patricia landed in the hospital. It was still unknown by many how a daughter could try to kill her mother for inheritance. Jacob wasted no time in defaming his sister. This caused her to be unable to enter the hospital’s building. She stayed in a suite next to the stranger’s while she awaited her mother’s recovery. A few days had passed. Jacob and Kate have not met eye to eye, and she didn’t know much about her mother either, she could feed on the answers the man who brought her there gave her whenever she asked but up to this point, she never asked of his name. She was broken and weak, unable to keep up the fight with her brother and she was unable to focus and return to work. She had already been investigated a day ago, and she felt as though she was guilty of a deed she had nothing to do with it. Although Patricia was hospitalized, the company had to keep on going. Jacob took it upon his shoulders to be the acting CEO while his mom was recovering. It was a piece of news yet to reach the ears of Kate. Kate sat quietly in a robe enjoying the view of the night sky when she heard a knock on her door. “Who could that be?” she asked herself as she went to the door. She looked through the lens and recognized the man. She opened the door with a pale face “come in,” she said. It was her hero, the stranger again. This time he came to see her and with a hand full, he walked in. He brought in Dinner, and a bottle of champagne, hoping to elevate her mood. She had been indoors for days. She shut the door behind him as he walked in and she helped him take off his coat. He carefully placed the champagne on the table with the meal. “thought you needed company and some nice food too,” he said as he dropped his weight on the couch and exhaled deeply. He looked exhausted, she thought. “Thank you,” she said as she put on the television. The night had just begun yet she might have just made the mistake of putting on the television. The news was about her brother, and the moment she saw him on the screen, her eyes could only read the headline, he was the new acting CEO of the company. She could not believe it. It had just been a few days that their mother was hospitalized and he had already assumed the position. “What a moron” she cussed silently. She had not realized her night robe had caused a tense atmosphere. He was lost and didn’t realize her gaze had drifted from the television and settled on him.
