Chapter Five

Bella POV Caleb’s hand wraps around Emma's waist, and he kisses her deeply, affectionately. Like he is in love with her. Everyone cheers. I hear my heart in my ears, it’s so loud- everyone’s excited shorts are distant, as if coming from very far. But Caleb pulled back from Emma, and his eyes fixed upon me again. That brings me back to reality. “You ruined everything, “ he says. When he speaks, I hear his mother's voice; it’s like she is speaking through him, and that hurts even more. My eyes flutter to Olivia, who is standing proudly by Caleb and Emma’s side. “You made a mistake, “ Caleb tells me, voice devoid of emotion. In this moment, it feels like everything we’ve shared is gone, all those years of our marriage- they never happened. Then he turns to the clan. “We will hold the Alpha ceremony in a week, “ his voice travels across the crowd. “It will be followed by my wedding to my future Luna.” Caleb’s hand around Emma closes tighter- he has never shown such affection towards me in public before, not even once in all those years. And he is doing it now with this woman… “The ceremony is dismissed, “ Caleb announces. No questions, no hesitation. Just like that. He ended my life as his wife and a future Luna of the Bloodflame Pack in a single gesture. Like it was nothing. What will happen now… Caleb has held my fate in his palm all my life. He still does. Then I realised it. He is going to take my kids. I just know it- Caleb doesn’t want me here. Olivia never did. They will make sure I never cross their path again. But I will have to pay the highest price for my mistake. My children. I can’t let this happen. I don’t have time to plan it - I just act. I have to get us all out of here. My only chance is now when everyone is distracted. I start looking around frantically. I spot Violet, her eyes are filled with confusion. Nicholas is smiling, his big eyes are glued to his father and his future bride. At that very moment, I do what maybe every mother would do- she would think of her children first. They are my world, and right now, I have to act. I used to commotion and the cheers of the wolves in the clan, and started walking towards Violet very fast. My little girl outstretches her hands towards me, and I close my hand around hers. “Mom?” she asks, puzzled. “Let's go, “ I tell her frantically, and she follows, no questions asked. I search for Nicholas- he is alone. Still clenching my daughter’s hand, I go to him and take his hand in my free one. No one sees us because everyone is too busy congratulating the future Alpha and Luna. “Come, Nicholas, “ I speak in a hushed voice, “We have to go. “ “Where?” he asks and tries to pull away from me. “Mommy wants to show you to a place. “ “What place?” Nicholas keeps asking, stubbornly. “You will see, “ Violet supports me. “I went there yesterday, it's a really pretty place. “ My girl is so quick to catch on to the lie, and I glance at her, smiling. “Yes, " I go on, “Come. “ I try to sound cheerful, but I know our time is running out and we have to hurry up. This time, when I try to take Nicholas’ hand, he lets me. I walk slowly at first- if I break into a run, this will attract attention. As soon as we are far enough from the altar, I do break into a run. I see the road in the distance- I don't know where we can go at this time, but anywhere is good, as long as it’s far away from Caleb and his chance to take my kids. Violet follows. Nicholas- not so much. “Where is this place?” he asks, and slows down. At this point, I am dragging him away. “It is very near, " I say, looking ahead. “I don't want to go,” my son declares, and I pause to look at him. He pulls his hand. And then breaks free. Oh, No…we were so close… Nicholas is running back to the altar. I spring after him, my hand still wrapped around Violet’s. No, no… why is he doing this… Nicholas is swift, moving quickly among the bodies standing in our way. He escapes and goes directly to Emma, who is smiling widely at one of the noble wolves from the southern clan. Nicholas hides behind her, and she gasps. “Nicholas!” she exclaims and kneels before him. “What happened?” she asks. Emma is acting like she is his mother. What’s worse is that my son is acting the same way. “I don't want to go!” Nicholas exclaims and starts crying. “Where?” Emma whispers affectionately. “What is going on?!” Caleb’s voice splits the air. He is walking towards us. “Why are you still here?!” Caleb snaps, his eyes burning. “I don't want an Omega for a mother!” Nicholas shouts, “I don't want Bella!” I can’t move. I can't think. No mother deserves to hear this from her own child. Regret, pain, guilt - they all flood me. Caleb takes a step in my direction, his hand closing around my forearm. “You wanted to take my son with you, didn’t you?” he bared his teeth, threateningly, and his hand was an iron grip around my flesh. It hurts so much, his fingers are digging into me. “You are going to regret this, “ he snarls, “Don’t you have any pride left in you? Don’t you see you don’t belong here?” He looks at me like I am the most repulsive creature in the world. “I…” My voice breaks. Something in Caleb shifts- his anger spills into indifference. He is tired of me, of my presence. He wants nothing to do with me. “Get out of my sight before I do something. Caleb says coldly, and his hand relaxes. Emma is looking at me. She presses her lips together and shakes her head. “A mother like you is a sad sight, “ Emma says, then she turns her back on me, taking my son away. My flesh is still pulsing with pain because of the way Caleb grabbed me. I feel like someone has just poured a bucket of cold, dirty water all over me, and everyone is looking at me, their eyes saying : “Get out of here. No one wants you and your daughter here. “ But where can we go if we no longer have a home…
