Bella POV
“Can you be my mom?” Nicholas is looking at the woman, wide-eyed.
I stare at them, still hearing my son’s words in my head. It’s like there’s a glass between us and my husband and son don’t even see me. Nicholas has fixed his eyes on that woman and she kneels before him, then she runs her hand through his golden-red hair. The golden red hair is the typical colour of the Alpha family. Only me and Violet don’t have it. I have been the object of mocking from my mother-in-law so many times because of it, Violet too.
“Move, we are late as it is!“ Olivia urges, pushing Violet hard and the girl stumbles. I rushed to my daughter and caught her before she fell.
“You are so clumsy,” Olivia shakes her head, “You will probably outdo your mother in being pathetic when you grow up. “
Olivia’s tone has become mocking. I don’t respond to her, fixing Violet’s dress. My mind is still racing, who is this woman, why is she here?
Why was my son looking at her like this? When I look back ahead they are gone.
We go to the main room and Olivia instructs one of her maids to bring all the necessary clothes for the ceremony.
“You don’t even deserve to wear this, “ Olivia grunts when her maid brings one of the red tunics the future Luna is expected to wear at the ceremony. As the god of fire is a direct protector of the Bloodflame pack, most of the ceremonial clothes for the Alpha Inheritance ceremony of the royal family are in deep red colours.
I run my hand over the delicate cloth.
“Make sure you don’t stain it!”
Olivia shouts and I instantly pull my hand away, afraid I will make another mistake. But Olivia doesn’t stop.
Violet changes in the ceremonial gown and my mother-in-law closes her eyes, exhaling heavily.
“Bring me the jewels and some dye for the girl,” she instructs the maid, “She looks sick, I can’t have everyone seeing her like this.”
Another of Olivia’s maids comes and calls her for something the Luna needs to see off to.
“Finish here,” my mother-in-law instructed without even looking at me and my daughter.
“There isn’t much to be done even if I had the magic ability to make her look presentable. “ Olivia mutters as she exits, her servants giggling with her.
Once it’s just me and Violet I suddenly feel all the pain and hurt coming down cruising on me.
I sit heavily in the nearest chair and hide my face behind my palms.
“Mom, “ Violet comes to me. I feel her small hand on my shoulder. “What is it? Is it because I am not pretty?”
Her words pierce my heart and I pull my hands away, looking at her.
“No, how can you say this?” I take her in my arms, “You are the prettiest girl in the world. “
“It is my fault,” she says quietly. “ I made Grandma angry. “
My world shatters when she is like this and I am ready to do anything to comfort her. Violet should not see me like this. I have to be stronger. For her.
“It is not your fault. “ I say, voice comforting, “You did nothing wrong, I promise you. “
She casts her eyes down and I close my arms around her harder.
“I love you, Mom, “ she whispers, “Please don't be sad. “
“I love you too,” I tell her and my eyes are filled with tears - I still hear Nicholas' words. Omega is weak… He said he wanted this woman- Emma for a mom…
Violet senses my hurt and I push all thoughts about earlier away. I am sure all of this has a reasonable explanation. I will speak with Caleb later. He is my husband and mate, we can deal with this.
We have been through so much, I can’t just stay here and makeup stories that might not be true. As I said- I am sure there’s an explanation for all of this.
This is when one of the servants comes in and brings the rest of the garments.
I wipe my tears and get up. I thank the servant and see Violet’s face brightening - I think she likes the dress and that gives me hope that maybe things will be okay.
I just need to clear them out with Caleb.
I finished Violet’s dress - she is so pretty in it. Violet is smiling for the first time in weeks. My maid comes in and exclaims when she sees the child.
“You look like a princess!” My maid exclaims and Violet makes a twirl. I instruct the maid to watch over her and I exit, determined to find my husband.
My wolf awakens, knowing her mate is near. He is in the quarter of the royal chambers, the mate bond igniting as I approach.
But then something happens. The excitement slowly evaporates into pain. It’s mind-numbing - hot white pain like nothing I have felt before. It explodes in my chest, making it hard for me to breathe.
He is with her. Caleb is with this woman.
I make myself walk, despite the terrible feeling overwhelming me.
“Come here. Yes, just like that.”
Caleb. It’s his voice. Commanding. Deep and heavy with lust.
My heart is pounding in my ears and my entire body goes numb as I take the final steps before I reach the door. The door of our bedroom.
I push it slightly and see her. The woman from earlier – Emma. She is naked, her hair falling over her bare chest, the light of the candles throwing golden flames on her skin.
Then she kneels, arching her back seductively as my husband stands behind her.
He speaks her name, voice heavy with desire.
The pain is growing with each breath I try to take. Caleb is cheating on the mate bond. He is cheating on me. On us. It is hurting me physically, numerous daggers are digging into my flesh. Why is she even here…
Then Caleb looks away from Emma, his eyes locking with mine.
