Jeremy and I prepare to leave, Bella comes to see us off, and I act coldly. I went too far during the council meeting, but it had to be done - I had to fool everyone. Jeremy and I travel a certain distance and wait for the night to fall.
“Do you think he bought it?” my beta asks as we sneak into the woods.
“Of course he did. I was also very persuasive. “
“Yeah, “ Jeremy mutters, “Bella looked devastated. “
My heart clenches. It kills me to see her like this, but I had no choice. If she knew the truth, it would not be so convincing and the chance for Michael to notice something would grow. I could not risk it.
“This should be over soon, “ I say, “ If they fall in the trap, it will end even sooner. “
“What if Michael actually wants to be the beta?” Jeremy asks.
