Alex POV
“Is it just me, or do most wolves here seem to avoid us?” Kyle asks as we approach the altar where the ceremony happens.
“It’s just you, “ Jeremy says, just when one of the wolves steps away from me to clear the way.
“And I am not even dressed entirely in black as usual “, I mutter, and my betas laugh.
“What do they think?” Kyle goes on, “That we will summon the shadow and…what? Turn them into frogs?”
“Or maybe…” Jeremy begins when my wolf awakens again, and I stop listening. He makes it very hard for me think. Then I see her. The woman is standing close to the ceremonial dice.
She looks… fragile. Gentle and so delicate.
Caleb is glaring at her, telling her something which I don’t hear because my anger suddenly rises and I can’t stop it. Why am I
reacting to this woman?
“Wow, and then they call us savages, “ Kyle mutters, and Jeremy gives him a look. But then he looks ahead again and makes a face.
"Yeah..." Alpha Caleb walks ahead and stands before the woman. He continues saying something, but I don’t hear it because all I see is red.
I feel my wolf clawing at me, just like last time. He is trying to tell me something. He is so restless again...
She's so beautiful… the thought emerges in my head, startling me. No, what am I thinking?
I shake my head to scatter the confusing thoughts when Caleb yells. Then he hits her. That’s when something in me snaps. My wolf is frantic, but my human mind starts racing. And Caleb dares call himself an Alpha? A leader? Give me a break. He is a f*****g nothing. I don't care if they are royals or whatever. An Alpha who is treating a woman like this is a f*****g coward. And I hate cowards more than anything.
“He doesn't even….” Kyle begins, but I move before thinking better, it's too late to go back now. I guess I am not very good at controlling myself.
“Alex?” my betas exclaim, confused when they see me walking towards the dice.
“What... are you doing?!” they ask, stunned, and I speak without turning.
“Go to the girl standing by the gate.”
“What girl?!” they ask, still perplexed, and I point at her. The little girl is standing in the distance, scared. I noticed her earlier, and I assume she is the woman’s daughter. They look very similar if you look closer.
“Make sure she is safe. “ I ordered.
“But where the f**k ar you going?! Alex! ” Kyle calls after me again, but I am already advancing towards the dice, everyone clearing my path.
Alright, maybe Kyle was right. Most wolves are afraid of us. And I will give them a very good reason to be. As I close the distance ot the alter, my wolf's song grows louder.
She is mine, mate… Our mate.
I hear my wolf directly in my head, he keeps singing, the need to go to her growing with each passing second. And even before I have reached the altar, I have made up my mind. I have always acted first and thought later- this hasn’t changed. I won't try to rationalize any of it. I just know that right now- this is the thing I want to do. I have to do. Nothing will make me change my mind.
And just as I came forward, I felt the mate bond snapping into place. Everything feels right. No doubts, no hesitation... The are no questions I need to ask myself.
She is the one.
Bella POV
I will never see any of them again. I think with a heavy heart. I lower my head as the emptiness grows. It is like a physical thing, enveloping me, swallowing me, and I can’t look up. But that’s when something happens.
It feels so new and… strange? The flames are burning, casting their golden light, but the air changes- it grows heavier and everything turns somehow darker. Maybe I am imagining this… Then I hear rustling, and I notice with my peripheral vision that wolves step away to clear someone’s path. Caleb turns to look in the direction of the movement, and I finally look up, seeing him.
My heart speeds up.
A man, tall and strong, dressed in dark clothes, is walking towards us. His clothes cover his skin entirely, but even through the fabric, I can see the outlines of his hard muscles. His eyes are a deep red colour, but there is something about them… something scary. I shiver despite myself. He looks cold. Intimidating. I recognise the clothes he is wearing.
He is from the Shadowcrow pack. They never attend such events, and most packs would rather have nothing to do with them.
Why is he here? What is he doing? They got invited because they are really powerful, and
perhaps Caleb wanted to show them they are not enemies. And as my mind is racing with all these questions, the man meets my eyes, and my heart makes a painful beat in my chest. Caleb stands straighter, preparing for a fight - I don’t know what caused it, but I can sense it. A silent challenge when my wolf shifts and I feel it. A strong pull - it is growing and becoming borderline painful. At this moment, everything melts down, and there is just him.
The man is walking towards us, and the way he is walking emits confidence and power. Then he stands protectively before me, and everyone gasps. Caleb looks stunned.
“Alpha Alex, “ Caleb begins, cautiously. “ Thank you for gracing us with your presence. “
Is the man the Alpha of the Shadowcrow? The ALPHA? Well, he deffinitely looks like one.
So this is Alpha Alex… I have only heard of him- no one knows much about him, and their pack in general. But one thing is common- the fear when they speak about them because of the dark powers they are connected to. As Alex approaches, my wolf starts to move inside me, frantically. It’s like my body is a cage she is trying to destroy because I have to let her out. The emptiness I felt after the breaking of the bond with my pack starts to melt into something else… And it becomes wilder, tangible… It’s so different from the fire of the Bloodflame, it’s… stronger. Somehow darker but so tempting. Calling me to accept is like mine. Then I feel Alpha Alex’s scent invading all my senses. It smells like earth and rain. Like hot summers and long winters. There is something underneath all of this, and I want to reach into it and discover what it is... It’s like nothing I have felt before. Then the words echo in my mind, coming from somewhere deep - a voice like thunder in the middle of a summer night.
You are mine.
I look at the man, startled, just as he stands right before me, protectively.
“You are a f*****g coward,” he tells Caleb and literally everyone gasps. His words pulls me back into reality. No one has dared to speak to Caleb like this. My eyes flutter to the sides, and I finally see Olivia, her face has become a crimson red colour. Emma is standing in the distance, not daring to approach. Caleb raises his voice, all his betas are alert, but no one dares to attack or do anything against Alpha Alex. And all he says is :
“She belongs to me.”
