She waited patiently while he mulled over that thought. James’s inner turmoil was apparent in the emotions that strayed across his face. Resolution and acceptance eventually reigned supreme and he gently stroked her fingers before releasing them. “Jason is still gonna kill me,” he murmured. “I’ll make him understand.” James’s expression reflected doubt, but he nodded. “I guess I should take you back,” he said, starting the car’s engine.
