She waited patiently while he mulled over that thought. James’s inner turmoil was apparent in the emotions that strayed across his face. Resolution and acceptance eventually reigned supreme and he gently stroked her fingers before releasing them. “Jason is still gonna kill me,” he murmured. “I’ll make him understand.” James’s expression reflected doubt, but he nodded. “I guess I should take you back,” he said, starting the car’s engine. James slowly pulled his Camaro away from the building and returned to the parking lot. Lori’s car resided on the far side. He pulled up beside her Mustang and she exited his vehicle.
