IT'S JUST LIKE A MOVIE

NATALIA My heart dropped. I wasn’t fully paying attention to hear what the person on the other line was saying but seeing Tristan’s expression was enough for me to know what was happening. “I’ll be there soon.” He didn’t bother saying goodbye and quickly dropped the call. Tristan looked at me with guilt, but I could also feel his urgency. Knowing that she had already gained consciousness wasn’t enough. He wanted to see her. “The omega, she’s-” I cut him off, forcing a smile, “I understand. Let’s go already.” He looked like he wanted to say something else, but I quickly averted my gaze, acting like I was busy with my phone while constantly reminding myself not to cry. I could have insisted that he could check on her for later. After all, the pack doctors are there with her. She wasn’t even part of his pack. But I knew that he wouldn’t be able to be at ease without seeing her. I’ll just get in his way… -- We immediately entered the room where Lorelei had been resting for almost a week now. She immediately turned to us as if she was expecting us to arrive. Right, fated mates could sense each other. I felt Tristan tensing beside me. His eyes were focused on Lorelei, and it was as if everything around them blurred out of existence, and all that mattered was each other. I bit back a sob and took a deep breath to calm myself before forcing yet another smile. “You’re awake. How are you feeling?” My question brought both of them back to reality. She blinked a couple of times before she was able to respond. “I feel better now. Thank you so much for helping me,” she politely responded. I wasn’t sure if she knew who I was, but she surely knew Tristan. “I’m Tristan… and this is my wife, Natalia.” He introduced us, almost reluctant. Her eyes slightly widened, and a streak of disappointment crossed her eyes for a second. I couldn’t help but recall how they were in the future that I remember. I was too naive back then. To think that Lorelei wasn’t even being subtle then. It was too obvious how they looked at each other, and yet I didn’t notice until it was too late. “What’s your name, and which pack are you from? I should contact them and inform them what happened to you. Your family must be worried about you.” Fear crossed in her eyes after Tristan’s question. It’s so odd seeing her like this. Terrified and helpless. “Don’t be afraid. I’m just asking so I can help you. I promise I will help you no matter what.” Tristan approached her, but she quickly backed away. I don’t know if she was scared or because she knew that Tristan couldn’t be with her, and she was already trying to distance herself. Either way, it made Tristan halt. He also took a step back, knowing that his advance made her uncomfortable. She wiped a tear that flowed down her cheek. “M-my name is Lorelei, alpha…” She answered, still keeping her head low. “I don’t have a pack nor a family anymore. They kicked me out. I promise, I didn’t mean to intrude into any territory, but I was trying to run away from the people who did this to me. Please forgive me.” My heart tinged, hearing absolute terror in her voice. She can’t be acting. Not with this condition. To our surprise, she went down the bed and knelt before us. “Please, I know I have no right to demand anything from you. But please…please don’t kick me out. I can’t go back there anymore.” She exploded in tears as if she had been suffering for so long. I saw Tristan extending his hand, wanting to hold her, but withdrew it in the end. It’s just like a movie, like watching a scene from a sad romance movie, except I was the person keeping them away from each other. “Get up, Lorelei. I don’t have any intention to kick you out.” He said instead, trying his best not to show too much care, and he was clearly struggling. The person he currently was is truly a kind person. He cares a lot for his pack and all. I’m sure that everything in him wanted to tend to her… but he was fighting those instincts because of me. “The hunters were very rampant for doing this. I’m sure my pack wouldn’t mind accepting and helping you.” Tristan muttered after clearing his throat. He was flustered but was trying to compose himself. She lifted her gaze, eyes gleaming in tears, but it didn’t hide the confusion in her eyes. “I’m sorry, but it wasn’t hunters that did this to me.” Tristan and I looked at each other in confusion. The doctors clearly said that the weapons used against her were imbued with wolfsbane. “What do you mean?” Alpha Tristan asked for confirmation. His voice was already strained from struggling to keep his control intact. Lorelei’s hands balled into fists until it was shaking. She remained kneeling and lowered her head to avoid his gaze. “I became a rogue not too long ago. I had nowhere to go and was often chased by rogues. It’s usually just them driving me away in the woods. But this time, the rogues that caught me, they… they played and took advantage of me. I knew something worse would happen if I didn’t do anything, so I ran. I ran like hell was chasing me. I saw the hunters and was terrified, so I tried to hide, but the exhaustion took over, and I couldn’t remember what happened next.” I felt terror crawling down my whole being when Tristan snarled in pure, unadulterated rage. His eyes were glowing as his wolf drew dangerously near and wanted out. My very instincts were telling me to back away, that it was pure danger, but I stayed. I knew exactly what he was going to do. He wanted to hunt them down, to rip apart the rogues that did way more evil things to her than we had initially expected. Tristan took a sharp turn and stormed out the door. Lorelei and I looked at each other knowingly. My heart raced as I sprinted outside to follow him. “Alpha, wait!” I exclaimed and grabbed his wrist just to stop him. He glared at me, the first time I’d ever seen him this angry before. “Let go of me, Natalia.” His voice was eerily calm, which was more terrifying, knowing that he was truly angry. “No. You can’t let anger get to you. You can’t march in there blindly. It’s dangerous. You don’t even know where to look-” I couldn’t continue my remark when he growled at me again. “I’ll find each one of them and kill them myself.” My heart dropped with his remark. For a second, I thought he would listen to me but he was ready to throw everything to avenge her. “Please, you can’t do this.” I pleaded again, but his expression didn’t change. Until I heard a familiar weak voice from a distance. “Alpha,” Lorelei called. She stood from a distance, barefoot, leaning on the wall to support herself and keep herself up. Tristan’s expression shifted in an instant. The rage in his eyes dulled almost in an instant. He didn’t budge but visibly calmed down. “Please… don’t do this.” She pleaded as she slowly approached him. Tristan’s fist uncurled, breathing heavily, yet slowly evened out. She reached for him hesitantly, hand trembling a bit as she held him. And when she touched his arm, the last bit of anger melted as if it never happened. She had calmed him down. So easily, as if it was the easiest thing to do. Something I can’t even do…
