Geoffrey took a deep breath, inhaling the salty air, and smiled. The bay was blue and smooth as glass, reflecting the cloudless sky above them. The sun was mellow and warm, and the breeze coming off the water was cool, but not cold. It was an unexpectedly perfect day in San Francisco, made even better by the company.
He looked over his shoulder and watched Nash and Sunny. They were sharing a beer and pointing across the water to the seals. Sunny was laughing at something Nash had said, and Nash was smiling, and Geoffrey still couldn’t quite believe he was there. Couldn’t quite believe he could go over and join them if he liked.
Nash looked up, grinned at him, then excused himself from Sunny and crossed the deck of the ferry to join him at the railing.
